how do i know if a cheap laptop im buying is stolen?

I found an offer for HP tx1000z laptops on craogslist for 100 dollars each and I want to find out if it is stolen before I buy it. he says he got 20 of them for his friends new business and now he didnt start the bussiness and needs to sell them. how do i figure this out and keep from getting into trouble?

2. You really can't do much. Try putting in the serial number on google to find if someone has posted that it was stolen.
3. don't buy it from a person buy it from the makers of it
4. your paying 10 cents on the dollar - my money says you will never receive the goods, even if it is stolen.
