Power Adapters for laptops: "straight" or "L-shaped" ... does it matter?
First, apologies for not using the correct terminology. I need a replacement power adapter for my HP ZV500 series laptop. The adapter it came with is "L-shaped" at the input end (going into the computer) with a yellow ring around the tip. The ones for sale I am seeing often have "straight" input ends, also with the yellow ring. They say they work with my model. But I am trying to play it safe before I shell out the cash.

- Yeah, it's just whatever you prefer, straight or "L-type"... If it says it works, it will work (Unless they lie.)
- Ya its all the same, although I prefer straight with a soft flexible cable.
- Doesnt matter just different brand names and style, just check your voltes on the old adapter to make sure there the same voltage with the new adapter .
- The L shaped adapter basically is made to keep it from being flexed and keeps it from breaking as easily where the wire enters into the plastic grip. Either one will work as long as it is made for your model.
- Each power adapter is unique to a certain brand. If you try to use an adapter to an HP brand laptop with a Gateway computer for example, you may actually end up frying your system. The adapter plug is the choice of the company, and it makes no difference which they use.
