I need major Laptop advise, please, people who own Laptops, gimme ur advice!?
I really need a laptop that will be good for me now, and for the next 5-10 years if possible. I'm only 15 with a minimum wage part time job, and so far I have abotu 800$ saved up for it. There was, well there still is, a sale going on at Future Shop for an HP laptop that I really want. The site is here: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10076831&catid=22495&logon=&langid=EN# Anyways, I think it is the perfect computer, but my brother keeps telling me I can get one for cheaper. What do you think? What if I upgrade from time to time? I had friends with Dells that didn't come with any software, and they were bad computers... I heard differently about Dell... I have 2 friends with HP laptops, and I've been on them and they're not only gorgeous (screen and graphicwise) but they run smoothly and are easy to use. I want the laptop because: -for university -because I want my own computer but I live in a small 2 bedroom apt. already with 2 old computers (moms and brothers) -i'm going to need it anyways so i might as well get it now.

- I work on graphics a lot and got a Dell Inspiron E 1505. Its really great. It costs $900
- Get a dell, HP or Sony. No laptop will last you for more than 5 years. The rate at which tehcnology increases makes that almost impossible (it is hard for a desktop to be efficient for 5 years).
- It should be good, but you could get a Dell for cheaper. But if it's the design and everything that you like about this one, then I'd recommend sticking with the HP.
- Hate to bust your bubble but laptops don't last 10 years. If you want one that will last that long, you'll have to configure one in Alienware and you'll be spending somewhere between 3 and 4 thousand on it. As far as laptops go though, Dell has a 2 year warranty on theirs. If you're spending about 1000 on a laptop, it's only going to last you maybe 2 - 3 years. Go Dell if you decide to do this.
- FOR THE LOVE OF ZEUS DO NOT GET A HP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've had two friends get HP's and they DESPISED them. always had problems, always crashing and always something not right about them. customer service is REALLY bad and really not worth the money. get a Dell. had one for 2 years and not a singel major problem.
- nothing going to be good that long if you get 3 or 4 years out of it you'll be lucky but a $800 hp would be ok
- no laptop will last 5 - 10 years. the technology will change too fast. any computer is good for 3 years before you need to get a new one. The price on that website is outrageous. I got a really great one from dell for $800. Shop it around.
- go for the XPS200 its only $ 1000 and has a tetrabite of memory(=1000kilabites=1000000gigabytes=1000000000megabytes= 1000000000000bytes=the memory of some pentagon supercomputers
- Dell, HP, Compaq all are very good for the price..don't expect to have it 5 yrs or more..
- As has been mentioned it would be advisable to stay away from the HP for now. With the recent changes their support and quality have come into question. Even if you upgrade a laptop it won't last 10 years. You will be luck for it to last 5 years with upgrades. Unlike a desktop about the only upgrades you can do to a laptop on your own is the HD and the memory. Even the HD is not always an easy upgrade. Dells are currently the leading industry preference and come highly recommended. Although more costly IBM is also still a quality brand and still provides decent support.
- Ask yourself - What do I really want the laptop for? As you know, computer technology is always improving so in a few years time your computer will be old technology. I should think you will be able to buy a good reliable Laptop for at least half the amount you have saved up to use for E-mails, schoolwork, correspondence and you will need good software and a printer, scanner and even a digital camera.
- Well we have recently switched from all gateways to all HP's and there have been a only a few quality control issues we have had with them and they are all software level. 1 nx5000 series will hibernate and the LCD will appear to be dead because the backlight wont turn on with out pulling the battery and AC power. And the drivers included for them do not appear to work 100% with the wireless cards. If the laptop used chineese capacitors you can expect to get a year or 2 maximum out of it before the mother board will fry. Yes you could probally go cheaper however dont skimp out on the warrenty. Because with the run of crap that every manufacturer is producing to keep profits up you will use that warrenty. (Instore warrenties are better then the manufacturers because you can speak with someone face to face who understands english) HP Dell warrenty service is in India And the POS Alienware I owned was based out of miami. Of the 2 years I owned that laptop it was in depot for repairs for 18 months. ( cannot say more as there is a pending lawsuit)
- This one looks pretty good, however, I couldn't see what kind of specs the graphics card has. A 64-128 mb graphics card will do fine with games. I would take your brothers' advice and look around for a cheaper one. Computers usually are kept for 3-5 years. As far as the hard drive and RAM, you can look around for one that has a minimum 80 gb hard drive and 1000mb RAM. I don't know much about HP. I bought an HP pc once and had to return it twice because of different problems. I went with a Dell, and I later purchased a Toshiba laptop which has given me no problems as of yet.
- HP is a good machine but sony vaio is better if u need laptop that still runs 4 or 5 years down the road and has good support and a ton of upgrades free of charge
