Buy HP Laptop Today Or Wait a Month??? Will there be Back to School Sales? Also, is it bad to buy upgrades?

I need to have my laptop by August 13th. I am going to buy an HP laptop I've pretty much decided. The best I could find was a $200 coupon, bringing my lap down to $1352 for * Vista Home Premium (32-bit) * Core(TM) 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz/4MB L2Cache) * 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800) * 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) * 383MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS * Imprint Finish (Radiance) + Microphone + Webcam * Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 4965AGN Network w/Bluetooth * 160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive * FREE Upgrade - LightScribe DVD+/-RW w/Double Layer * HP Mobile Express Card Remote Control * 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery Will there be better deals later in the summer fo back to school and is any new tech coming out I should wait for? Lastly, the 2 gig ram is $125. On places Like NewEgg I can get it cheaper or get more for a little bit more. If I could get 4 gb for $200 that'd be nice. Should I stick to Factory installed 2g or should I up? If it's a bad deal I'd love to see where to get a good one. Where would you purchase a better laptop for the same or less? I'd really really like to hear. (This isn't sarcastic, I'm quite curious as price is an issue and if I can get a laptop with a larger hd or better graphics card then please tell me where)

  1. If you are running that horror story known as Vista then 2gigs of RAM would be a good idea.
  2. thats not a good buy. if you're going to pay that much, you should be getting an 8600GT video card, and a much bigger hard drive. that thing you're looking at is a waste of cash for what you're getting. EDIT: the 8400 GS is a 256 meg, shared memory video card.
  3. I bought a HP Pavilion dv6375us at a local Compusa store 2 weeks ago for $ 1,299. Reg. price was $ 1,549. There was $ 250.00 in rebates, which brought the price down to $ 1,299. I am not extremely happy with my new hp laptop. You may wish to consider other laptops. The bad: The built in webcam works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't. I have spent many hrs trying to figure out the problem, and the problem still exists. If you think this is going to be a fast-running laptop, think again. This computer is not "slow" , but I am disappointed that it does not run faster. When I boot up, it takes at least 5 minutes to get up and running, then everything runs slower than I thought it would. The black finish gets very, very dirty quickly from dust and fingerprints. You can clean the black finish, and soon it will look filthy from the dust and fingerprints. The speakers are disappointing. The sound is "tinny", sounding like very, very cheap speakers. The fan runs much, much more than I thought it should, but it is not loud or noisy. The keyboard is very, very comfortable to type on. If you type a lot, you will enjoy this keyboard. The speech recognition feature works very well, so that you can control the computer by speaking. (you can say words and they will appear on your computer screen, etc.) However I will not use this feature very much. The TV tuner works very well, whereby I can watch and record live TV. It is very easy to record live tv programs, but I will not use this feature very much. If you buy this hp computer, I would say unpack it carefully because you may want to return it. I have finally decided to keep mine, because I have been unable to find any other product that I would want to buy. Many features on this computer do seem to work the way they are supposed to. Overall I'd call this an "average" computer. The speed is the big drawback.
  4. You are going to come out better getting a pre-built one. Those specs sound good, but check out www.bestbuy.com , or www.circuitcity.com for some other choices.
  5. You must spend your money for the best brand. As I know HP and Dell are the best in laptops for a long time and they are very reliable too. I trusted HP and I bought a HP laptop 2 years before, and still like the day I bought it. Didn't even have to service it at least once up to now. I recommend you to buy a HP (with experience) or Dell laptop. On www.hp.com you can even customize your laptop. And also you can check the price.
