What brand Laptops, OMIT HP! are good?

Lets see, my brother wants to get HP laptops because they're always on sale at futureshop/bestbuy. The problem is the 2 HP computers we have are dying. One of the 2 which is 1 year old is starting to die, the DVD drive broke from burning a disc, hardrive corrupted right after the warranty is gone. Basically they suck! I keep telling him DON'T GET HP! THEY SUCK!, like he doesn't take my computer as an example... the corrupted dvd drive and hardrive one is mine. So far I'm telling him to get a Sony, Toshiba, or a Dell... Still not convinced >_>... So I have to make my parents on the same line as I am, because they're the ones paying. Which I manage to do, now theyre asking what brand is good. Soo, people @ Yahoo answers what brand of laptops is built to last? Also don't say apple, our family hates them ;P...

1. Panasonic Toughbook, Toshiba, Lenovo Thinkpad, Fujitsu, and (sorry, but it's true so I have to mention them) Apple are all great brands and seem to have far fewer problems and higher reliability than others. Compaq is an HP. Gateway and eMachines have lower reliability than HP does. Acer is decent, as long as it's not a cheap Acer. Sony is over-priced for what it is, but has better build quality than HP (not by much though).
2. If you want a laptop from a brand that is always on special get a PC. If you want a good laptop with a good OS get a MacBook then you can still run Windows if you want to although you would have to buy it separately.
