Dell 1710 Laser Printer error light on?

My Dell 1710 laser printer printer worked fine until a few minutes ago. There was a brief power outage here and when the power returned, both the Toner Low and Error lights are on (not flashing). I changed my toner just a few weeks ago. Also, I have turned the printer on and off multiple times but I the lights are still on. I just called Dell and they said that there is no other solution since I have already restarted the printer many times. They claim that there is something corrupted on the mother board as a result of the power outage. I would really appreciate some help! Thanks John R. The printer is connected to a Surge Protector which is meant to protect it from such power spikes (in theory, at least). Any other ideas? I already order a new printer. Thanks everyone anyway!

  1. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's likely that Dell is correct. There was probably a power spike when the outage was over and that burned something inside your printer. Just wondering ... do you have a surge protector on there? If yes, then there may be some other explanation. Hope this helps.
  2. I interpret the lights you mention as: 1. Toner cartridge not installed, OR 2. Unsupported toner cartridge (meaning, this is a 3rd party, NON-Dell cartridge*) When you installed your printer and drivers, an User's Guide was also installed on your system. (a copy is on the Install CD) There is a table in the manual about interpreting the lights. Since you mentioned a power outage... There is a chip on the toner cartridge that is also susceptible to surges. Try replacing the cartrdige.
