Upgrading my home printer any suggestions? Laser or stick with combo type? Which brand is best value?

I'm up grading my home printer (going from +10 yr old Lexmark 1100 to ???). Would like a laser but like the convenience of being able to scan items. Any suggestions as to best choice when it comes to quality for the money and where the cartridges or toner don't cost as much as the printer yet last a reasonable length of time. I don't do a lot of printing but want quality when I do. Hoping to spend less than $200.

  1. If you want color, and less than $200, you are stuck with inkjet. Avoid Kodak at all costs. Their support is worse than terrible, they can't write a decent driver to save their lives, you can't share it between operating systems... Don't be tempted by their lower ink prices... if you can't print, obviously you are going to save a LOT on ink! Canon makes good printers, as does Epson. Canon has an edge when it come to reliable non-clogging print heads, though.
  2. I've done that recently. I had Epson and fed up feeding it with cartridges. I have my Lexmark X2350 The beauty is that it has just 1 cartridge that cost £15.00 and lasts like for ever. After Epson with it appetite i feel much better. Scanner, Copier, Printer and if I want I can do Fax from it too. For print photos it is no good at all (but I don't do them this way any way)
  3. I myself own several black and white HP Laserjet printers (HP 4M, 5 and 5N), one HP Officejet RX40 <= this inkjet combo I now use mainly for simple copying at home and one terrific HP Color Laserjet 4550 <= extremely heavy like 90 lbs. A friend gave me a multifunction HP Laserjet 3330 bec it didn't work and displayed a Scanner malfunction, which I never could resolve as it is a common discrepancy and truthfully this HP 3330 is not well built and does not even have an separate ON/OFF switch... Anyway wanting a multifunction laserjet, I searched reader comments on PC World, Amazon etc and then went to the retail stores and if you want small footprint multifunction laser, then based on tech and consumer magazine recommendations. If you want to spend less than $200 I would recommend you look closely and consider buying the CANON Imageclass MF4150 Laser Printer - Copier, Fax Machine, Scanner Print, Copy, Fax and Scan with the imageCLASS MF4150 Laser Multifunction that sells in the range from $199 to $249 and is sold at OFFICEMAX, STAPLES, BEST BUY! For myself, Costco Wholesale had the better upgraded CANON MF4270 (has built-in ethernet port) version special that ended 5.25.2008 for $289 - $40 + sale tax and free shipping which I ordered and am awaiting arrival this week. Hope the Above Info Helps!
