laser printer prints half page only?

hi my friend has a lexmark laser printer, he recently just changed the cartridge and somehow the printer has been printing only half a page (vertically). He called technical support and they said it might be broken and need to replace some parts. Anyone have any knowledge about this? I know fixing a laser can cost a bundle, Could there be any other reason why it's only printing half?

  1. Have you checked the printer settings by right-clicking on the printer icon in control panel->printers
  2. Tell your friend to first see that his printer memory is properly seated.
  3. First - go into control panel/printers and properties. Print a test page - if it print half a page then its : 1. Drivers are damaged - download the latest ones, delete the printer from your system and reinstall - this happens regularly on windows generic drivers (when windows automatically installs them for you) 2. Printer is dead
  4. First, determine if the problem is hardware related or software related. Hook it up to another computer, preferably a laptop (for convenience sake), and preferably a different OS, such as a Mac. Print a test page from this computer. If it prints correctly, it's a software problem. If it has the same problem as on the other computer, it's a hardware problem. If it's a hardware problem, then try replacing both the toner and drum (if there's a drum) with brand new, Lexmark parts. See if that makes a difference. If it doesn't then buy a new printer. They aren't that expensive anymore - right now Office Depot (and others) have a Brother HL-2140 on sale for $50. If it's a software problem, then the best thing is to completely uninstall the printer software, reboot, and reinstall the printer software from scratch.
  5. Tell friend to take out toner cart, and shake gently, then look back in you will likely find a pile of loose toner needing removed. Clean VERY carefully, either with a vcacuum and LONG nozzle or slightly moistened tissue Look for a glass strip through which the laser chines, this is likely pbstructed by toner / something else.
  6. I typically would Yahoo or Google the model of the laser printer and problem and see what others have done. It could be an issue with the drum not holding a charge on part of it.
  7. I am sure it works.... I understand your issue, there is nothing to worry. Just replace the cartridge I think the cartridges are in warrenty, so no problem just change the cartridges and check out the print..
