  1. Laser printers don't use ink. They use toner, and toner will pretty much always be cheaper than inkjet ink in the long run since you replace ink about 10x more often than you replace toner.
  2. Yes - laser printers use toner instead of ink but the cost of a replacement cartridge is a lot more expensive. Toner costs about £50 - £70 for a black cartridge which is a lot more expensive but possibly lasts for about 3000 pages. I believe that you can now buy a mono laser for under £100.

  4. Brother are very good and the prices have fallen sharply go to amazon type in laser printer and there are at least 6 options all under £100 and some near your £50 target.
