Brother HL-2070N Laser Printer?

How often do I replace the drum for this printer? Anyone who has it or has experience with it. What is the purpose of the drum? I thought all I had to do with a laser printer was change the "toner" and that's it? What's with the drum and how often do I change it?

  1. According to the Brother web site for the HL-2070N you replace the drum every 12,000 pages http://www.brother-usa.com/printer/modeldetail.aspx?PRODUCTID=HL2070N&tab=supp I would not replace the drum until the print quality began to degrade. Hopefully they don't have a chip counting the cycles and requiring you to replace it at 12,000 pages.
  2. A drum will usually need to be replace every after using 3-4 toner cartridges completely. The drum is a waste collection unit that prevents excess toner dust from damaging the printer. An easy way to know when your drum is full is to look for darkening of the print as well as black lines and blemishes on the printed page.
