Does anyone know how to get the Brother HL-2040 laser printer to print double sided on a MacBook?

I can see the two-sided option on the menu but it is light grey and won't allow me to select it. I know I can try the odd/even printing trick but I am trying to print documents that have 4-6 pages printed on one side so I can't do it.

1. Double sided is easy. Print all the odd pages first, flip your project over and print all the even pages next.
