Dell printer not compatible w/ print server?
I recently purchased a NetgearĀ® PS121 1-Port USB Mini Print Server and I followed all of the instructions that were provided and still cannot get the installation to succeed. I am very frustrated. Is my printer not compatible with this print server? any help would be greatly appreciated. I would love some help. Is there some free software or drivers that I could download to use with my print server that I recently purchased? I have a dell color laser printer 1320c

- Check the setting on your router, and all firewalls. I had the same problem and found that the print server protocol was being blocked by both the Windows firewall, as well as my routers hardware firewall. Once these were enabled to allow the protocol to be used, everything worked fine. Had to hunt for these, so you may have to look around a bit in the setup programs for the firewalls. One was a matter of just checking a box to enable use. The other was excluding the protocol from being blocked by the firewall. good luck.
- I looked up the specs on your printer, it is a USB printer.. You didn't need the print server at all, if you could have just shared it off your computer. To share your printer if it is attached to your computer, just right click on the icon , go down to sharing and follow the instructions...If your intent is to not have your computer on and share the printer, then I can see the use of the Print server. I looked up the specs on the printer server. It is only good to hook up to 3 computers. I assume you hooked it to your router or switch with an RJ45 patch cable... If you didn't then it won't work. It is not a wireless device. I also assume you tested the printer by attaching it directly to your computer first to make sure it commuicates...through your usb port. You didn't say how you have it wired... It also says in the specs that it comes with a CD for easy installation? assuming you followed the instructions....please tell me more info ...so I can give you a better answer..one more thing...if your usb cable from the printer to print server is more than 15ft you might have a problem because usb doesn;t like long distances without a booster.......
