I have a hp laser jet 2100 and when i print the bottom portion of the page is dark and the top is light.?

Is it the toner that needs replacing or is the printer bad. I can read everything but you have to look close to see everything.

  1. 1. How long has it been doing this? 2. Does it print the document from the bottom of the page to the top? (If so then yes it probably is the toner that needs to be replaced). 3. Does it do the same thing on the Printer Test page? This additional information can help us figure out the problem better. I will watch for the answers and update then.
  2. That is a very strange problem indeed. This printer prints from the top down on the page, so it is odd that it starts out light and then gets darker. It is possible the toner cartridge could be bad, but there are other things that could be causing this. You could buy a new cartridge, but if that doesn't fix it, then you're out that money and still need to have it fixed or replace it with another printer. The other possibilities for the problem could be a bad transfer roller, dirty or bad contacts for the toner cartridge (try reseating) or transfer roller, the high voltage power supply may be bad (taking a little bit to build up the voltage required for a dark print). You might have to take it to a service tech to diagnose/fix it, or you might want to look into replacing the printer as a whole. It might be something simple, or something expensive, hard to say without seeing it. Best of luck.
