HP Laserjet 1010 problem?

I have an HP lasrejet 1010 that I bought 4 years ago. It's been fine until today when I'm gettkng a black band down one side of may pages when printing. I've opened it up and there appears to be a build up of toner inside. Even after vacuuming that out, it still prints the black band. Do I just need a new toner cartridge or is the thing now beyond repair?

  1. Black bands down the side mean two things, first the Fuser is going bad (if that is true, buy a new printer). The other is that the cartridge is bad. The drum could be damaged, which is causing the build up. Replace the cartridge and go from there.
  2. A black line down one side usually indicates needing a new toner.
  3. Replace the cartridge. If that doesn't fix it then the fuser is bad. A fuser can be replaced for around $70 and the part number is RM1-0660.
