Laserjet printer - darker on one side of the page. How do I fix it?

I have an HP laser jet printer. I had the same toner cartridge in there for about 3 years and recently had to replace it. The new cartridge was working fine until today when it started printing one side of each page darker and slightly blurred. How can I fix this problem? Is it a faulty toner cartridge?

1. This is likely a faulty cartridge -- sometimes refills aren't the quality of the name brands. Sometimes you can fix it if you take out the cartridge and shake it side to side and up and down to redistribute the toner in the cartridge. This helps only if the toner has largely settled to one end. Good luck.
