1. Have you tried staples brand toner. They are cheaper than the orignal toner and do the same job. At work that's the only brand of toner/ink we use due to the high price of the orignal toner/ink costs.
2. I found a great source for cheap HP c9720A toner. I've used this company numerous times for my HP 4600 toner printer and they're top notch. I've considered buying a new HP 4650 toner printer to get better speed and print quality.
