What software should i use for a home media server? I have 7 computers. (I have 5 roommates that i rent rooms to). I have over 70000 mp3's that need to go into a library on the server and as the library on the main server updates, the rest of the computers need to reflect. I tried ITunes......it works OK but it doesn't meet expectations. I would like to use a UPnP client that will utiize the sharing server of windows media player 11. It says you have to have windows vista on the client computers but i'm sure there is backend software that can also do this as the other computers aren't ready for windows vista vs my two. jesus b. i know how to map network drives and share folders on a workgroup. I'm asking for software that monitors these mapped drives for graphical music libary rather than browsing through the mapped drive/folder manually.
Whats best, Nas or server for home media network? I was looking for a Nas within my planned budget (3 to 4 hundred dollars) to do the following: - File sharing between 3 pcs using vista and xp. - Good performance. - Stream high def media content to TVs using Asus Oplay or WD Live Tv receivers. - Stream (and if possible transcode) high def media content to PS3. - Stream music to Logitech squeezebox duet. - Torrent manage and web/ftp access would be a nice plus, but not 100% necessary I found no nas in the market that fit both my needs and budget. In terms of features, the netgear readynas duo came close, but very poor transfer performance. In terms of performance, the buffalo linkstation pro ls-xhl came best, but not compatible with squeezebox or ps3 media server for media transcoding. So i found a possible solution. A home server using an MSI WIND NETTOP PC. With an atom dual core processor, 2 gb ram, and 1 tb hd, it costs less than 300 dollars. Ad 100 dollars more for 2 Tb. The only thing is I dont know anything about home servers or diy nases. Would a home server be the best or only choice for me here? Can i install any software in a home server? Whats the best OS for a server to fit my needs?. Thanks a lot
I want to create a home media server? Okay so i want to be able to stream hulu netflix, last.fm, etc. from the box i also want it to work with my ps3 and xbox. And i want to be able to stream my content from my pc.
CPU recomendations for home media server? Ideally low wattage, especially when idle. Looked into atom line a little bit. What's your experience? Recommendations? It won't do much more than store data and stream media with a little transcoding at low times, so transcoding time won't matter. Looking to use WHS 2008 if that helps. Thanks
How To Set Up A Linux Home Media Server? I have a P4 2.2ghz PC with a 300gb HD, and I want to install a distro of Linux that I can have connect to my home network so that I can have all my pictures and music on one computer, but be able to access them on my four Windows XP systems. I have very little previous experience with Linux. My network is wireless, but this computer will be wired to the router directly. I would like to have full access to these files, not just streaming capabilities, similar to the way you can share folders on the Windows Network.
Looking For a Home Media Server? I am looking for a $200-$300 priced home media server that attaches to my tv via hdmi and supports USB hard drive storage, does anyone have any suggestions??
How to connect my Home Media Center to my HDTV? I am new to the Media server/center thing, so any detailed explanation will definitely help: I am planning to install an open source Media center (Moovida) in my desktop/PC (Windows Vista) upstairs in my home office and I would like to watch the movies from my HDTV downstairs from the family room. What is the best way to connect my HDTV to the Media center through wireless. The PC upstairs is on Wifi and i have the router in the family room.

How do I set up a Wirless Home Media Server ????? What units I have right now in my home: * 1 Laptop capable of Wifi in the kitchen * 2 Desktop computers capable of Wifi upstairs in separate rooms * 1 PS3 that is capable of WiFi in the living room (Currently all these units share their media through a portable harddrive that i carry around the house that stores all music, movies and photos) What I want: I want all the units mentioned above to wirelessly share all media of music, movies and photos through one home media server. The problem is ... i dont know where to start or what to even buy for this. What do i have to do and buy so that all my media can be wirelessly accessible from all 3 or my computers and the ps3?????
Is there a single box that comes bundled with a media server and media player? Hi i am looking for a media server player kind of device which can be used as a home media server and a player in my home network. What that essentially means is i just want to keep a single box in my living room - connect it to my TV, play content like movie, photos, surf internet etc. I don't want a separate media server box and another media player box to serve and play content.
How do I set up an old PC as a media server on my home network? I'd like to be able to keep this PC in my entertainment center and connect it to my TV to watch movies/play music without having to connect my laptop to the tv. I would like to be able to access media from the server on my laptops, as well as control the server to play movies on the TV from the laptop.
The Best CPU for Home Media Server? I have been debating for building Windows Home Server. I do have 775 /w 4GB DDR2 Ram board laying around that I have not used for years. So I am thinking to build WHS. However, sooner or later New WHS Vail will come out, so I would like to build a future proof WHS for at least 3 years. I have 8 PCs with a wired Gigabit network. And one 3 TB NAT. However, most of time only 4 PCs are streaming HD or access to NAT. Mostly new WHS will be used for streaming Music, Movie (720p HD). I have two choices for WHS. Using 775 board with 4 GB DDR2 800 ram and buying Q8400 or E8400 CPU. Or just buying whole new stuff, like I5-560 with H55 Board, 4 or 8 GB ram? Any Advice? Correction "NAT" -> "NAS"
My PS3 is connected via Wi-Fi to my home internet network. How can I use the PS3 to access other Media Servers? My PS3 is connected via Wi-Fi to my home internet network. It can access the Playstation Store, the internet browser and I can play games online with PSN. I am trying to figure out... how to get my PlayStation to access the "media servers" that are found on other devices (computers) on my home network? How do I play media files from other devices on my PS3? On the PS3 home screen, I see my other devices (computers) listed under the "Video", "Music" and "Photo" tabs. However, when I select the items, an error message appears: "Access to the media server is not allowed. It is possible that the system name for this PS3 system has not been registered. Check the settings for the media server." Where do I go from here? I have tons of media (on my computers) that I would like to be able to access/play from my PlayStation 3. It would make sense that I should be able to do this, since the PlayStation 3 is already sharing the wireless network with the computers. I looked under the "Settings" tab to see if I was missing something, but have not figured it out yet. Under "Settings > Network Settings > Media Server Connection", I selected "Enabled". I also have installed all available updates. Thank you to anyone who can try to explain this to me, or even suggest a website that gives directions regarding this particular issue!
Windows Home Server/ Media Center? Im thinking about building my first Windows Media Center / Home server. I will be using it to store and stream home movies/ pictures/ Backed up Movie collection for easier access. (Streaming movies from the server/media center to my Xbox 360 through the network using Windows media center software and Xbox 360 wmc extender) Should i use a Raid 6 or a multiple single hard drive route? I will start with 3 2TB Caviar Green but will eventually get up to 5+...... as my collection grows. I currently own about 500+ DVDs. Windows 7 or Windows home server on the Server? Whats a mirrored/ stripped array. By my calculations im going to need about 3 2tb hardrives for the movie storage and probably in the near future another2-3 2 tb hard drives for future blu rays and a seperate one to hold pictures. I know that raid 6 helps a bit with speed which really doesnt matter much for a media server since it can only stream media so fast. and having a backup using raid 6 would be nice plus. but is all the work of a raid setup worth it or should i just in the near future have like 6-8 single 2tb caviar greens in the server. (possible connections on the motherboard may be an issue though. i think)
What specs should I look for in a home media server? I'm looking to set up a home computer to serve music, photos, and Web video feeds to my home entertainment network. I intend to purchase a system with Windows Vista Home Premium and install TVersity Pro or PlayOn on the system. I'd like it to be able to handle these programs and to be able to serve media to my XBox 360 and possibly one or two handheld devices. In the long term, would like it to be able to handle these duties as well as occasional HD-DVR work (as technology becomes standardized) and possibly to function as a second TV on occasion. Any recommendations on specs I should look for? I currently have a three-year-old HP desktop machine with 1 gig of RAM and around 2.2 GHz of processing power. Should I just upgrade it for now?
Does anyone have any DIY options for a home media server to rival the likes of kaleidascape etc? Looking for a solution to allow me to stream DVD movies, in all their surround sound glory, around the home. Does anyone have any tried and tested solutions? Since storage space is cheap I'm looking to archive the originals uncompressed and navigate via remote control (artwork preferable) on all of the televisions. Thoughts so far: Windows Vista Home Premium PC (with Media Center) in living room. MyMovies 2 addon loaded (to deal with artwork, dvd ripping etc). XBOX 360 in bedroom 1 Linksys DMA2100/2200 in bedrooms PS3 on future television Kaleidascape have an easy to use system, but at $16,000 for a base system... way too expensive considering it's all PC based hardware anyway. Happy to share potential HTPC spec if anyone is interested.
dual network cards for my home media server? ok here is what i am doing i am going to build a server pc that will hold all of my music videos movies and have a couple tv tuners in them that will stream cable tv to my media center computers. now what i wanna do is use the dual gigabit network cards that are Onbaord the MB and i guess bridge them so it relieves all the traffic on stress on Just one card and spread it out to two so when when the tv tuner cards are stream live TV to computers and some body else is watching a movie i wont have any lag or hiccups in the network cause i am only ones one network card. do i just use the windows bridge that is built into windows 7 or do i need some type of server software that will help me out with this??? this is what i want my setup to be, still in the works as in software and hardware that is coming out or already out. building with a server type mother board with dual gigabit cards. gonan buy prob two to four dual tuner cards so i will have 4 hd tuners and 4 SD tuners. then I was hoping for a softsled to come out but so far no go so there is this available. http://dvblogic.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=8923 that allows u to stream your tuner cards to other media center computers. so streaming 4 to 8 channels at one time for recording shows. will def lag up one of the gigabit cards so that why i want to spread out the work onto both gigabit cards. while tv is being recorded or watchign live tv, and the baby is watching one of her movies off the harddrive of the server i jsut dont see one card duing it. that and the whoel house is gigabit. havea netgear gigabit swtich and all computers have a gigabit card in them.
How can I build a home media server using an old desktop? My roommates and I have an old Sony Vaio desktop with a Pentium 4 processor and Windows XP installed. We want to turn this computer into a server for our house and spend as least money as possible(we are college students). We want to buy a couple of 1TB or 2TB Hard Drives are willing to spend a little more if necessary to build a proper working sever. This is what we want: -Storage: I wanna be able to store files from my computer to the server. This is mainly going to be movies and music, but also word documents and power points because some of us share class materials. -I wanna be able to Download anything that has been uploaded to the server into my computer. -I wanna be able to watch any of the videos or play any of the music my computer and gaming system(there's 2 PS3's and an XBOX 360 in the house). -I want multiple computers and systems to access the server and do all of the above at the same time and still run at a good speed. -It'll be nice if it didn't use that much energy and put a big toll in our electric bill. If possible, I would like the server to go into some kind of idle mode when is not being in used but can still be seen in case i want to access it. -Since more than likely the server will be in my room i will like it to be QUIET -Headless: Meaning after i set up the server i want to keep it in a corner without a monitor and dont wanna have to connect it again(unless is really necessary). -I want to spend no money on software, and yes I'm will to change the OS(I heard Ubuntu is good) I think that covers everything we want. We already have a wireless network setup in our house and own a total of 6 laptops and 3 gaming systems. Any detailed instructions or links to instructions would be highly appreciated I forgot to mention that the server must work on both mac and Windows
Easiest way to build home media server? I basically want to take a a handful of 2TB hard drives, throw them in a cage, and plug them in AC & (preferably) USB. I have no readily available eSATA. RAID 0/5 (through software) would be nice, but don't need it. And I'm not concerned about it being NAS because I'd mainly use it on one computer and if I was adamant about accessing it everywhere I would use other means. 1. Am I making sense 2. Please show me an example of what I would be looking for on NewEgg, etc. Server to monitor. Will probably be used like a hard drive enclosure with 5 bays
Home theater media server? I have two TV's, and a home theater projector. Is there any way to hook up a central place to play dvd's, for my satellite receiver, etc. and then have the signal sent to the 3 different tv's depending on where I want to watch it? I didn't know if I could get some kind of media server (know nothing about them) or setup a computer to act as one. I have a spare computer, and would like to use it for a tivo. If anyone could point me in the right direction for info it would be much appreciated.
How to use Windows Server 2008 as a home media center? I have some experience with Windows Server 2008. How practical is it to use it as a home server? Anyone out there that has experience of setting it up at home? I would like to have all my media files stored in a single location and be able to access the from different computers over a wireless network. I know about the possibility of using Windows Home Server, which is probably more user-friendly, but I already own a copy of Server 2008 so it would make sense to use what I have. I am also aware of the availability of the free Linux OS but I rather stick with Windows for now.
Where can I get a good free media server application? I'm looking for an application to stream media from my home ftp server to my laptop over the Internet...I don't want to use an HTTP client because I'm running XP Home, and it doesn't support IIS. I downloaded Unreal Media Server and Player, but the interface is horrible, and the display of actual media files and whatnot...I'm looking for a better one that's free. Any ideas?

What is the best solution for a Media Center for a home network? I am wanting to have a home network media center that would provide several services & I need some help deciding what the best solution for what I desire. I have about 1TB of media (pictures/movies/music) and also currenltly have a 1TB external hard drive. I am looking for either a NAS / Home server that stores my media and allows access from my Home network using a TV / PC / Laptop & possibly the Web if I am out of my house. I also have multiple Ipods that need to sync to the Media using itunes. I would also like to play movies & music stored on the network from my home theature. Any suggestions? What's the best way to set up a Media Server? Hello I would like to know some opinions on what's the best way to set up a home/media server. The server will be used to share Media like music and videos at my friends home. So it should be directly accessible from the computers at his home (which includes both Mac and Vista systems). He also wants me and some other friends to be able to upload/download over the web, so we can all contribute to administrative tasks and keeping the server orderly. But at the same time the server needs to be secure, so nobody else has access to his home server. So our ideal solution would bring us: -FAST and EASY access to the server via the internet and through the internal network (LAN). -Security (I guess a password would do) -lots of storage space. As far as I know, an ftp server would allow us to do all that. But what's the best ftp server solution we could set up for ourselves? Or is there a better method to share these items, maybe one that allows direct streaming from the server to the television? Any ideas and helpful comments are welcome. Thank you.
what are my best options for wireless home media storage? Is there a way hook some tech (e.g a hard drive/server of sorts )up to my home wireless router so that i can use it to store all my music/photos/movies that are on my computer at the moment so all my computers in the household can acess the data? thank you in advance
DIY Home Server (First Time Builder)? I'm putting together nothing fancey and somthing under £300 to serve as a Home Media/Server. It will most probley run some programes as well as back up / store file and stream media though out the house to multiple devices. I've gone with a custom build mainly cause I wanted to start building my own PC's from on out plus having the flexability of upgrading and doing pretty much what I want. Here is what I have currently: Case - Fractal Design Define R3 Black Pearl Case - USB3.0 Price: £70.00 - Delivery £0.00 PSU - Corsair TX550M 550W Modular Price: £67.00 - Delivery £0.00 Motherboard - ASUS 1155 P8H67-M LE R3 S/L M-ATX Price: £74.94 - Delivery £0.00 CPU - Intel Celeron G530 2.40GHz Socket 1155 2MB L3 Cache Retail Boxed Processor Price: £35.72 Delivery £4.00 RAM - G-Skill 8GBXL Ripjaws X for Intel Sandybridge Platforms DDR3 PC12800 1600MHz 8GB Kit Price: £39.74 - Delivery £0.00 Total: £291.40 8GB and 4GB were pretty close so I opted for the former. The mobo has integrated graphics but eventully I may end up getting somthing about £50 to stick in a PCI slot. It also have everything I need, lots of SATA and HDMI. I surpose my question to you guys is..... 1) Whats your opipon on the specs 2) What else do I need? 3) Advise to a noob building, thermal compaund etc. Thanks !!!
What's a good low cost Windows home server option? I'm looking to setup a decent home media server. It doesn't need to be anything fancy, but should be able to store pictures, video, etc as well as run Skype all the time (I want to use this is as my always-on home phone.) I don't have many other requirements, but would like the ability to connect it with my TV for displaying media if I choose. I was thinking of picking up one of those Dell Zino HD with the HDMI ouput on it. Is that a decent option for what I want or should I look for something else. Ideally, I'd like to stay near or below $250.
Does computer RAM affect media transfer speeds? I am working on building a home server. I designed it to be a simple, low-end machine for the sole purpose of being able to host my own webpages on. Recently, however, I thought about how well the machine would work as a home media server as well. This got me wondering. Seeing as how I've designed this with low-end parts will something like RAM affect the transfer speed of media between computers or between a computer and TV? If I only have 1 GB of ram, will that affect it? The machine itself would be on my home network with a category 5 ethernet cable, so that should be no problem, and I would need a hard drive capable of faster read speeds. The CPU is expected to be an Intel Celeron 430 Conroe-L 1.8GHz. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I'm trying to learn about home servers? I think I am asking of the right thing. Basically, I have all of my movies backed up on my hard drives, so I have several external hard drives but am running out of space on my desk. I want some sort of enclosure that will hold several internal hard drives to save space. What I do is stream my media from my computer to my PS3. If anyone can kind of guide me on where to start, I would greatly appreciate it!
Home Media Network Advice? Here's my goal: I want to be able to copy my DVD collection onto my computer and then buy a player for other TVs in my house that will access the saved DVDs through the network. That way I can have all my movies in one spot and simply select the movie from the TV of my choice and press play. At the same time I want to be able to watch my Netflix "Instant Queue" without switching devices. Right now I'm running the Orb Caster on my PC (Windows 7) and accessing it via my Wii, but the Wii accesses it via the internet which isn't optimal since the upload speed from my ISP slows it down. Anyone know of the best setup for this? I'm mainly looking for the best Media Server/Media Player setup without spending hundreds of dollars testing out different setups.
What OS would make the best media center server? Have an older computer currently running Windows XP. Use it to play music on a stereo, and watch movies on a flat-screen tv. Also used as my home network server. Just wondering it there would be a better operating system I could use, either a better Windows (XP, home server, Vista) version, or a Linux version (Except Ubuntu, of course.) Ideas?
How do I stream media from ubuntu to my ps3? I updated my ps3 to 1.80 firmware and now it gives me the option to search for media servers. How do I set up ubuntu to share folders/media with my ps3 on my home network? I setup the samba share but the ps3 still says it cant detect a media server.
I need suggestions for a low power media server...? I need a low power (<50w) server (Run from solar power, and to be switched on 24/7), to serve out a lot of files (5TB+) via Samba. I've looked all over the net and can't find something low power with lots of SATA interfaces. I'd prefer to not use USB as an interface, as no SMART information is available through USB? This will be a home media server, and therefore most of the time only 1 file will be being accessed (e.g. a movie or an MP3), to the other 5 (or so) drives can be in sleep mode. The nearest I can find to what I need are Netgear NSLU2 boxes with hacked firmware, but these have a usb interface (although I could go with that if needed), and as far as I can work out can only have a maximum of 2 drives connected? I've wanted to do this project for a long time, and now 1TB drives are getting reasonably priced (and will be cheaper by the time I have found a solution) I've started to look more seriously into implementing it. Anyone out there got any ideas?
Where can I download the media for Windows XP home from ? I'm an IT professional but i primarily work with 2003 servers & XP Pro machines. My partners friend's PC had a hard disk failure. I've replaced the drive but he has lost the media CD's he got ith the machine. I have the windows serial key for it but no media. I want to keep this machine legitimate but do no want to pay £80 to buy another licensed version unnecessarily.
how to view my media on Boxee Box? I bought a Boxee Box today thinking it could replace my PS3 as my primary home media server. i hooked up the power cord, HDMI, and LAN cable. i went through the basic set up and got to the main menu. this is where the problems started. I installed the Boxee software on my computer and loaded a movie into it. i then figured it would be able to be view on the box. no luck. when i go to Boxee media manager on the box it shows nothing in there. when i access my UPnP PS3 media server it loads some of my folders but it takes a long time and has no art or info. i have heard great things about this thing but so far i have been unable to load my movies or TV shows onto it. anytime i click movies or shows it says "no local media yet". i have no interest in hooking the HDDs directly to the box. i am trying to figure out a way to stream to the box through my computer. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Run Windows Server 2008 (2K8) and Windows Home Server (WHS) Simultaneously? Hi, I'm looking to buy a media server (probably one of the HP MediaSmart models) to consolidate the family's media library (scattered across 2 desktops, 3 laptops, Mac and Windows). I also need to run Windows Server 2008 for a work-project I'm developing. Media servers typically run Windows Home Server (WHS), which itself is a customized version of Windows Server 2003. Is it possible to get both running on the same machine? I've googled articles that describe how to replace WHS with WS2K8, but that is not what I want. WHS will be the primary server OS and I'll only need WS2K8 when I need to test something with a Active Directory domain. So the question is this: can a media server either be configured to dual-boot WHS and WS2K8, or can WS2K8 be run as a virtual machine on a media server, and if so, how? Thanks, Roland Thomas

How to get my PC to find my PS3 in my home network to use media sharing? Both my PS3 and the computers in my home are connected wirelessly to the internet through a modem. However, while my PC's can 'see' each other on the network as their names are clearly visible, and I am able to share media through them, I cannot 'see' my PS3 on the network in any way to be able to share media with it from my other computers. My problem is, while my PS3 has connection to the internet, it is not showing up on my PC as being part of the network, and therefore I cannot share files between PC and PS3. I have tried PS3 Media Server, it cannot find my PS3, I have used Windows Media Player and where you get to the part to select which devices to allow sharing too, there is no PS3 device or 'unknown device'. Please Help!!
Does anyone know when Windows Home Server OS will become available and where can I get a copy?? I have been 'evaluating Windows Home Server for a few months now. I like it... My evaluation licence run out in Febuary 2008 and would like to get the full version licence befor that. Can anyon tell me how to get one without having to buy a whole new computer??
What do you think about this rig as a Media and file server for home use? The rig is as follows Mobo Asus M3A78-T CPU Semperon 2.2 ghz (can't remember model but it's only 45watts) VGA integrgated Storage 5x samsung 500gb sata drives (in raid5) (and a corsair voyager GT to boot from) Chassis antec sonata 2 with almost no fans installed PSU - Antec EArthwatts 350w My plan is to boot from the corsair voyager GT and everything else goes on the raid config (so that the hdd's can turn off when not in use and the thumbdrive can be on all the time, so everything can be quiet and low power) i'd be running server 08 but i'm unlikely to set up a domain, DNS or FTP Since a few people in the house already use it, i'd probably use itunes to share media, as well as having the library shared in windows shared folders of course there'd be a huge shared folder for files, programs, ISO's and movies The unit would be used for torrents also, and may also be used in conjunction with a TV tuner to be a huge recorder the unit may also become a HTPC, although our television doesn't have HDMI, so we may need an actual videocard with the RGB plugs when that happens and a Blu ray drive Any opinions, suggestions improvements or comments anyone can offer?
How to build a PC home server? A friend of mine suggested building a Windows Home Server with one of the slightly out of date PCs that I have as it would streamline media and file sharing for my house and be a good project to work on while saving up for a new gaming rig. I was wondering of anyone had any suggestion, tips or articles about it.
How to make and Old PC a Media Server? I have an old PC that I want to make a Media Server. Looking just to host music, photos, movies. It would not be hooked to a television or anything. Whats the best way to do this? I would reformat the machine to what it was originally - XP home. Would it be better to make it Ubuntu? I would want to map a drive on my network computers so I know it would need a static address.
Do I need a home server or would some sort of NAS work? My first ever question! Please bear with me.... It's getting to the stage at our house where we've got well over 1TB of pictures, music and video files/movies scattered around the house and our storage requirement is still growing! We have a main PC that holds all the photos and music - then these are mirrored to an external HD once a week as backup. We have a laptop that shares the pics and music from this. We also have a couple of 500gb 2.5" external HD's (both nearly full) that we ripped all our DVD and CDs onto a while back and have these permanently connected to the PS3 as a jukebox. Whenever we buy new films etc we rip them straight to these drives and put the discs away. It's just all starting to get a bit unwieldy, plus i'm constantly plugging and unplugging drives and moving them round the house and updating them with new media...blah,blah,blah. Some of these films & photos are vital too - scans of old family pics that i had restored, pics of my kids being born, home video footage etc... Data loss terrifies me. I'm wondering if it's time to build or buy some sort of media server so all this stuff is in one place (backed up and protected) and i can share/stream it all over the house? I'm totally inexperienced in networking and servers really but am fairly IT literate and i do intuitively grasp most things so i 'm confident i could make it a project if t his is what is needed. Alternatively would a NAS of some description do my backups and maybe the streaming? They seem to be cheaper and easier to install... Thanks in advance - sorry it's a bit long winded but thought i best get as much detail in as possible!
My Home Media Network...? II am in the process of building a Disk Array and a new PC. I intend to get a hub and create a home media network. I will turn my old PC into a media server. I will acquire, edit and store media files from the new PC and they will be stored in the Disk Array. My server will pull up the media file and forward it onto the proper device, home stereo or home TV, for example. Now, what do I need to be able to supply this same music content to my web site with a searchable dBase of my music. I want to take the music files here and pump them up to the web site dBase, in other words. Would I require another server for this or just another PC ... I am not sure how I should be handling this task - but it sounds server to me ...... Any of you wilth experience in networking, I would love to hear from you on this. Thank You All Kindly...
Ripping a video to work on a PS3 and Windows Media Center? I have a Windows Home Server that I want to host all of my videos on. The issue I am having is that I can't find a converter that will rip a video to a format that is seen in Windows Media Center as well as on the PS3. From all the ones I've tried, it's either one or the other.
Media servers, PS3's, DVRs, Antenna...what's the best option? I own a PS3 and love it's media streaming capabilities. I recently got rid of my AT&T Uverse to down grade my TV watching to save money and to not be a a slave to pay for what I can get for free (to an extent). I strictly use my PC's and my internet connection for all my media desires and want to know how to make it better. I know building a Media PC is popular and I know there are products like the EchoStar TR-50 HD DVR to record my broadcast TV (for antenna only). So what is better, should just get a tuner card for my PC and software to set up a DVR on it. But then I need to know I can stream to my home theater. Also I should mention I use other streaming through PS3 like my stored media (movies, music & pictures) as well as HULU & NetFlix. I know there is a ton of info on the web but I am hoping yahoo answers will give me the best answer rather then tooling multiple sections of multiple forums all to get multiple answers. Oh did I mention I am looking for a low cost answer (lowest possible that is)
what do you think is going to be the next universal media format? from 8 track to cassette to cd to mp3 from vhs to dvd to hddvd to blueray from mpeg to avi to mp4 and psp where is this leading? when will we have a universal format? one format that all devices can use. i have a feeling that it won't be a disk or anything with moving parts. i kinda think that movies will be sold on little flash drives in a format that all computers, tvs, media players will recognise. I think that all digital media will someday be purely digital. ie, code. your video camera records onto an internal harddrive. when you get home, wirelessly upload to your home/server for archive and wirelessly to your TV to play. I think the need to go to a store to buy this code burned on a disk will be obsolete, when you can just download the code from the net instead. iTunes already does this. So again, what do you think the next universal format is going to me? I think first we need to decide on a universal code, then the media it's written to can be anything.
What is an inexpensive media extender? I need a media extender that has the same functionality that the Xbox 360 does (i.e. it will stream video and music from my windows home server) but I don't want to spend $200+. It does not need to me HD as this is for the kids SD TV.
Buying Windows Home Server Software? I recently got a second-hand server, it's pretty small and not the best stat-wise, but it's better than nothing. I was looking through some software to put on it, and I found that Windows Home Server is probably the best for me. I don't want the roaming-user thing, I really just want to back up my stuff and perhaps have a media server (HP sells software for that). Anyway, I've looked through what you can buy, and all I can find is the HP server with Windows Home Server already on it. I don't need the physical server, I just want an installation disc so I can put the software on my server. Is there anywhere I can buy just the Windows Home Server installation disc?
Windows Home Server or Windows 7? I have a computer that I set up to be a media server. I purchased and installed windows 7. Now I am having problems keeping everything networked together because some of the computers have windows XP installed. I can get it to network, but after a day or so, the network will fail. When I try to connect the xp machine over the network to the windows 7, it will say that I do not have proper permissions. Even though I connected 6 hours ago with no problem. So, sense it could be the operating system, I figure I can purchase and install windows home server operating server. Now here is part of the question, Should I do this? Should I go from windows 7 Pro, to WHS? I tried to get linux to install, but had so many issues because my computer is set with raid 1+0 and got so tired of getting everything to work, I broke down and went with windows 7. FYI, Getting Ubutnu to work with Raid 1+0 will make you want to commit suicide. Here is what the network looks like Cysco small buisness gigabit wired router to 3 windows 7 computers, and one xbox360. Engenius Outdoor wireless router connecting 3 xp computers. Best network to work with above, and the different operating systems that will also recognize and work with Raid 1+0 with a Gigabit onboard Raid hardware controller. I looked to see if the router is being exploited, and I asked two of my buds to hack my network. The port scans shows non of them are showing open, and my router has upgraded firmware. All userids and passwords are not default, and using alpha numeric passwords. Well, It will have a wire connection, the outdoor router is acting as a switch, The router connects to the wired router and bridges the network together. So, It does technically have a wired connection.
I want to build a media server, which one? I am going to build an home server in our little coop located in Minneapolis, MN. I am open to suggestions. Here are my current components: * Macbook (1) * Ubuntu Laptop (1) * XP Laptop (2) * XP Professional - Testing Server (1) * Tivo (1) * LCD Projector (1) * LCD Television (1) * Wifi - Linksys 2)) * Palm (Tungsten T) * Sony W800i * The Cube (mp3 player) * Digital Cameras (2) * Scanner (2) * Printer (2) What is my dream machine? * Communicates to all my computers * Web Server (to be accessed outside - currently using DynDNS) * Media Server * Jukebox * Network Firewall * Easily Updating I have a budget, it is somewhat open to all options. I do want to build it myself, I just want everything to 'talk' and interface. Thank you in advance.
What suggestions do you have for creating a Linux-based home server? I'm looking to build a Linux-based server for use at home. I'm not new with Linux, but I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination. I'm looking, in particular, for distribution, software, security, and configuration suggestions. I'd like the server to be able to do a number of things: *Private SMB/CIFS server for local network *Media server, for iTunes and Xbox 360 *FTP/Webserver, password-protected, accessible from internet. *Media center features (Maybe?) *Possibility for future expansion. Part of me wants to use Ubuntu or Fedora, for familiarity's sake, but perhaps there is a better option. Thanks!
need to read ISO movie files? I have DVD fab platinum ed. I got it to rip movies to my HD, and eventually set up a home entertainment network and a home media server. but our DVD playing program doesn't read ISO's. I can watch the movies only by opening dvd fab and then using the preview window, which you right click and make full screen. but it doesn't have anything but basic functionality. any thing out there that plays ISO movie files? or any other suggestions?
Is there a good Flash Media Server provider that charges a la carte? I'm developing a site with a short video (20 sec. ~4MB) on the home page, I need a host that runs Flash Media Server to feed the FLV to the user's SWF file. Are there any free hosts (or hosts that charge prorated amounts, similar to Amazon's S3) that can server up the files faster than a standard shared hosting account?
If I want a raid storage setup for media, should I use a NAS or an external drive? I have a large collection of music, videos and photos and am trying to decide on the best RAID setup for my goals. I've been looking at both the Buffalo Tech DriveStation Quattro and the Terastation Home Server. The Home Server is a NAS and the Drivestation is an external drive that connects via eSATA. Since it's mainly going to be storing media, would the NAS be a better choice?
How do I set up a simple media server like this? Ok here's what I want to do. I want to have access to a .wmv file on my home machine from a client machine. I have access to both machines at the moment via remote desktop. I'd like to download or stream the file to the client. Authentication required of course. Is there a free option to do this? both machines are XP and client only has IE 7
I am building a home theater PC and am trying to figure how to keep it cool at quiet at the same time? Can you use a peltier cooler attached to a heat sink without a fan or will i fry the system? I am also consider using a 1.5 athlon to run it, and then lower the voltage and clock speed to reduce heat. It's primary use will be for playing divx movies and acting as a media server. I don't want to hear this thing humming alot while I am watching a movie I considered water cooling, they still seem to require a fan and are very expensive. Another Idea that I thought of was just custom building a cooler using a heatsink and a small lower db graphics card fan.
Media Server Security? I'm looking to gert a small media server for my home. I'm not to network savy. And have never used one before. Can i connect a small media server (similar to this: http://www.shopping.hp.com/store/product/product_detail/GX662AA%2523ABA ) to my wireless linksys router? And if i do, will it be secure so that only my computers on my network can connect to it and no one else? Any other thoughts about doing something like this would be appreciated. Or comments on how it all goes together. Would like to know more before i go and buy something useless for me.
Best way to setup a media server ? I want to set up a media server for my home network. I have a laptop, an Xbox360 and members of my household have a PC. I want to set up a dedicated part of that network to hold all my media files (music, video and photos) that I can access using Windows Media Center on all of the machines connected to it. What is the best way of doing this? Is there a piece of hardware I can buy that will do just this, or will I need to set up a dedicated computer that will hold one or two large hard-drives that can be accessed remotely?
Ps3 Xbo360 Media Server? This is an answer not a question but http://www.tversity.com/home is the best media server i have found that works with the ps3 and Xbox360 instantly when you install it and its free!
How do you set up a personal home server? Okay here is the thing. I used linnux for 2 years now. So i am familiar with it. I am planning to buy a cheap computer. a really cheap one to set it up as a data / media server. to be able to access it from my two laptops that i have at the moment. I have VIsta on one Laptop and Pclinnuxos on teh other laptop. I have 2 External drives filled with data and media. Now i am planning to buy this cheap computer and install linux OS (server edition) on it. so i can connect my two external drives on it and will be able to access them within my appartment and if i need you over the internet. How does it really work? I was looking at ubuntu server, or Pclinuxos Business edition, or any light weight distro that is reliable. Also can anyone provide me with step by step instructions on how to do it. I have alot of files and it frustrates me to go and grab my external everytime i wanna backup or access a file on it. Anyone? Please help.
How to stream DVD video with chapters/menu intact? I have a media server in my home and I would like to be able to stream DVDs over to my TV. Currently I have this working via a PS3. The thing is I have to manually pick out the VOB files and play them individually (as well as transcode). Is there anyway that I can load the menus and use those with the chapter guidlines?
I need a naming scheme for my home network. Suggestions? I'll have 6 - 10 computers on this home network at any time. It will consist of a media server, active directory DC, and many various workstations with various tasks. I've already thought of naming schemes like stars, planets, greek gods, classic rock artists.... all are cliche'.... Please give me a suggestion. The best one gets used and the answerer gets 10 points! Good luck!
i cant get my media server to work on my ps3? i went into the windows media player and opened the library settings on my home laptop and went to media sharing but it shows in the box unknown device i clicked on that but it wont let me choose the allow button now im not sure but isnt it suposed to show the ps3 in the media sharing box. i have my ps3 connected to the router and my laptop also. both are wired with an internet connection has anybody had the same problem?
Should I get a Home Server? I have two computers I work with on an everyday basis (a laptop, and a desktop) As well as a Media Center Computer. I have so many files, that I need to backup and I am out of space on my laptop and I can use as much space as I can for my media center computer. Do you think I home server is worth it, or should I just get an external hard drive?
Media Server Processing?? I'm looking to build my own quick and dirty media server/storage system for my home network. My question is which computer will be doing all of the processing? Will the main server computer be doing all the processing for say movies or games? Or will the networked computer connected to the Server pull all the information and process it on its own? If the outside computer is going to be doing all the work(processing) then why would i need a powerful server copmuter for mainly storage?
Xampp on softmodded xbox? Does anyone know the procedure to add xampp to xbox to be used as a home media server. I want to use this to store all types of media and to be able to access from another softmodded xbox with xbmc (T3CH). I read up on the site but it does not seem to detail for noobs. Tried google and a few other sites but I'd rather hear from someone who has achieved this.(Most of the sites I found on google xbox-lunix.com, xdsl and others are a little above my expertise.)
3 Long Beeps At Startup? I have an old computer which was in pretty good shape when I last used it a year ago - it has been in storage since then because I have upgraded. I wanted to turn it into a home media server so I took it out of storage and I hooked it all up and turned it on and .... BEEEEEP, BEEEEEP, BEEEEEP! Three long beeps is all I heard, and nothing was displayed on the monitor. The hard drive sounded like it was booting up fine, the fan was spinning/working, but it just kept beeping these 3 long beeps over and over and over. I had to pull the power cord out to get it stop. I have already googled this and the answers I have found are a little confusing. They all say it means different things. The most common I found was some sort of keyboard error, but I know the keyboard is fine. It could be something completely different, who knows. Any suggestions?
Can i regularly swap hardrives Between 2 xbox 360s? Im looking at buying a second xbox 360 to use as a media server downstairs in my home, can i regularly swap the hardrive from my existing 360 over and use my xbox live account on both systems without migrating the account each time? Thanks in advance for any advice!
How do I create a Home Network for file sharing? I have an XP media desktop and I would like to make a home network for file sharing with my new Vista Laptop. I have DSL and the internet works fine, I have never made a home network before and I'm having issues with connecting the two computers. I created the network on the Vista laptop, and I'm trying to figure out how to get the two computers connected. I'm doing a "VPN" (Virtual private network) connection and I had to put in the IP addresses which are simular because they are on DSL and the laptop connects wirelessly to the desktop's internet. Everytime I try to connect it says: ERROR 800: "Unable to establish the VPN connection. The VPN server may be unreachable, or security parameters may not be configured properly for this connection" ??? I have no idea what I'm doing so if anyone can give me some really detailed instructions that would be fantastic.
I ordered mac office student /home 04 to 08 update. Is MS not going to send expressions media like they said? I selected option 2 OPTION TWO: Send me Office 2008 for Mac Home & Student Edition (includes 3 licenses for home or non-commercial use only; does NOT include Exchange Server support or Automator Actions) + Microsoft Expression Media for Mac I assume that you get Microsoft Expressions Media for Mac, are they fulfilling this at a separate time? It says Right here + Expressions Media. How can that not mean it will be included, I don't see how you can read that any other way. I talked ot MS the person on the phone saud they did a miss print and will be shipping it to home\student anyway
PC for media centre and file storage use at home - what to buy with £2000 to £2500 budget (USD$3300 to 4000)? I live in London and I am buying a PC that will go into the lounge room on the floor next to the TV. I've only bought laptops for the last 8 years and haven't built a PC for 10 years so although I'm confident enough to build one I'm not informed enough to know what parts aren't compatible with what, what has a good reputation and what is quiet and so I'd love some specific advice as to what to buy (biased is fine!). I'm happy to buy a pre-built system or build but I find most of the online options don't have enough storage and or the TV/media centre components and I have no idea what's quiet. We're already got laptops so all this PC needs to do is: 1) Provide network attachable storage with some resiliancy. I want at least 2TB of usable storage and would prefer the drives to be in a RAID array in case of the failure of one drive. 2) Be able to play .avi (DivX) movies (at minimum) and TV shows straight to my TV (preferably via HDMI - it's not a fancy TV so I'm not after home theatre enthusiast wizz bang quality) with a remote control and nice easy to use (for the wife) graphical interface - probably meaning it needs to run Vista and act as a media centre? 3) It needs to hold my iTunes library and be able to handle easy syncing of the various iPods and iPhone in the house. 4) It needs to run my slim server (a.k.a. squeeze center) process to also server the same library of MP3's to our Squeezebox 5) It needs to be able to store and display our photo's to the TV easily - and be able to download the photo's from our camera's. 6) It needs to be able to backup several hundred GB of files (photo's, misc documents and mp3's) with minimal (not none - just minimal) human interaction - I'm thinking the ability to burn dual layer blueray discs would possibly be the easiest here because although I'd like to use online backup (Mazy/Carbonite etc) internet in my area is slow and not likely to improve soon (140-150kbps upload maximum) 7) It needs to be quiet enough to sit in the lounge room and be turned on 24x7 without being annoying - doesn't need to be totally silent but "quiet" is a goal. Also important that when we have a hot day (it happens occassionally in London) the fans don't suddenly go mental and get loud. 8) It would be nice if I could also feed the TV and cable through the PC (although that's a nice to have only) and being able to record stuff occassionally. I don't mind the case being big (ie; a tower). I don't really care how it looks (it doesn't need to be pretty). I don't need a monitor (I have laptops). I will need a wireless keyboard. Is anyone able to help / advise? Thanks everyone :)
How can I combine two hard drives to form one logical partition? I just bought 2 identical 640Gb hard drives in hopes of combining them into one logical drive to store movies, music, and other network files for my home server/entertainment box. I will be reinstalling windows media center edition. Anybody know what I am going to have to do to combine the two HDDs?
"Intel Media Server" Showing Up on Network? I just hooked up 4 new computers onto a router. They all have Vista Home Premium. When I click on the network icon on one of the computers, it has an extra icon for "Intel Media Server" followed by the name of the computer. What is that?
Can you restrict individual computers on a home network from accessing certain folders on a main computer? I have a home network which i set up, it consists of my Desktop(Mathew-Desktop), My laptop (Mathew-Laptop), And my sisters laptop (Tanias-Laptop). All Computers are running Vista vista home premium. My Desktop acts like a media server, for all of my "LEGALY Brought" movies and music. I Have movies in one HDD, Music on another HDD, and Adult movies on another HDD. Basically i dont want my sister accessing the adult movies from her laptop but i want to be able access the Adult movies from my laptop only. How do i do this?
Will a 733 celeron with 32 MB video card play divx 640x480 through an s-video ok? I am putting together an HTPC. I bought a nice htpc case, 2x250 GB hard drive, wireless keyboard with integrated mouse. I have a microatx board with a 733 celeron lying around and a 64 mb mx4000 pci video that I could use. I have 128MB of ram (although I would probably use 256). I eventually plan to add a newer board & cpu, but I really don't want to rush out right now and get one if I don't need it at this time. Plus a new board will require new ram, etc. I have about 400 dvds that I am looking to convert to divx (400 dvds and growing takes alot of space) and store on a few hard drives, add about 25 gb of mp3s and play online tv shows like heroes off the nbc website (and maybe the occasional websurfing). I plan on using this as a makeshift media server for home network. I have 3 fully loaded pcs that can do anything else that I would require like gaming (2.8 P4, 3.2 P4, athlon 64 3800+) so I am not really worried about performace.
How can I stream video between 2 homes? I have a bunch of videos and music on my windows xp home edition desktop that I want to share with my freinds windows xp professional edition desktop. I want to be able to display streaming video on to a television through my freind's computer video card. Is there a way to stream the content off of my computer to his so that he would be able to access and watch my computer's video files? I am not able to directly connect the computers together into a router because we live on opposite sides of town. We both have cable modem internet though. Are there any options for me? I tried flash media server 2 but you need to be running windows 2003 server to make it work. Are there any options within windows xp?
Why isnt my xbox 360 showing up in my shared devices list in media player 11? I am trying to share pics, vids and music between my xbox and home pc running xp.Problem is my xbox 360 doesnt show up in my device list to share media with in media player 11.My xbox is connected to my router via ethernet cable. My pc is connected to the same server via wireless connection.Anybody have any ideas??
Why does Media Player on Windows Vista, take FOREVER to add files to the playlist that are on the network? First I just want to say I am well versed in networking, and computers in general. My job is being wholly responsible for maintaining a network of 30+ PC's, 3 linux servers, and 130+ dumb terminals. I just want to make it clear that, though I may not be a computer genius, I for sure know what I am doing, when it comes to home networking. I just installed Vista on one of my PC's. I have a PC (Win XP) on my network that shares all my media files. With previous versions of windows like XP or even Win2k, I have NEVER had a problem like this. I have the drives on the data server mapped on the Vista box. So lets say I navigate to the album I want. And drag the 12 or so tracks to the playlist in media player. Media player stops responding for literally 30-60 seconds until it finaly shows the songs on the list. 2-3 albums and I give up waiting after 2-3 minutes. The data is on a defragged SATA 2 drive. The PC's are the only 2 on a 100Mbps network. WHY is it doing this? BTW: IT'S NOT BECAUSE MY COMPUTER CANT HANDLE VISTA. The PC with Vista has a AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+ 2.0Ghz CPU, 1GB RAM - 250GB SATA2 hard drive. It handles everything that actually uses resources just fine. I have all the visual stuff active, and it runs nice and smooth. ALSO -- if I watch the CPU meter while media player is all frozen, it's just sitting at 2-3%. There isn't an large network activity, and the RAM usage doesnt seem to change, so I'm not understanding where it is bottle necking. BTW -- I also disabled everything I could find that might take time when adding files. Like adding files to library when played -- getting additional info off of the internet etc. Also - in case it make any difference, I have the 64 bit version of Vista installed.
Home FTP Server? Can anyone give me detailed instruction on how to set up an ftp home server in Windows Vista Home Premium? I have 2 partition on my harddrive. The first has the OS on it and all the programs, the second partition has all the media files and documents. I want to be able to access the second partition from anywhere in the world through ftp, with username and password. I googled away but I only found xp instructions. Any help is appreciated and I will select an best answer. Thanks
Tversity Media Server: PC to PC streaming? Hi there, i have a massive media collection on my PC and would like to access the media from it from other PC's in the house. A friend recommended me TVersity which so far i have found great. It works seamlessly with my PS3, PSP, Phones etc. However when it comes to streaming media to other PC's on my home network, they have to access the media library from the browser (using the standard TVersity way: 192.168.2.7:41952) Is there any software or does anybody have any ideas how i could access my music as i would in itunes/wmp/songbird but from my tversity media server? I find the browser interface quite slow and painful trying to find my music Thanks Dan

How do software companies catch serial number cheating? I am curious to know how large corporations find people who are illiegally using their software or found a crack/serial to use the software. Are they allowed to have a message home feature in their software? This would mean any software vendor could figure out how many installations of a specific serial number there are...I think this is what microsoft does...what about Adobe for products likfe photoshop or there new flash media server? Thanks for all the help....I am really curious on how these companies are making money when half of the cracks for these softwares are SOOO EASY TO FIND.
Which 1 to buy HP d4999t or m9100t? Will be used for downloading and viewing movies. Working with photos and HD videos and everyday use with some gameing. Have HP Media smart home server and Media smart LCD tv.
How can I change my 300GB NAS Maxtor drive for a larger one? I have Maxtor 300GB NAS drive on my home network. I want to increase its size. USB HDD only allow view only, and are not included in the media server. Tried taking HDD out of Maxtor, plugging in as secondary drive on PC. HDD is not recognised (presume it's Linux or similar). Overhaul old PC to act as media server? I have an old system with a 600 mhz AMD chip in it with about 480 MB RAM in it with 16 MB video ram. Without upgrading I would like too use it to stream music to my home theater as well as pictures. My TV has VGA so should be good there. Couldn't get 2000 running so will go with ME but will still need to stream protected Itunes content. What apps can I use for the pics and music on a ME system?

How to set up a media server for PS3 using WMP11? Hello, I have recently purchased a PS3 and want to set up a media server between my laptop and PS3 console through a Belking 54g router. The PS3 automatically recognizes my fathers computer (which the router is plugged into - it's the main PC) but not mine and we are on the same home network. Is there any way for the PS3 to recognize my laptop but not my fathers so that I can stream my photos and videos. Every solution I have tried has yet to work and I need someone to nudge me in the right direction. Thanks in advance, Jon
How do I play .divx movie files on a PS3? Using my home PC as a media server (with Windows Media Player) I can access and play songs and most movies. Need help with decision to buy or build media player? I have a Ubuntu Linux box setup as a file server in my home office. I use some of this space to store avi files which is shared using Samba. I can then access these files using my Windows Media Center in the den and through an XBox in the living room. I want to put another media player in the bedroom but I don't want a clunky XBox or full PC hooked up to the bedroom TV. Plus, I don't want to spend a fortune. I've looked at the D-Link MediaLounge (DSM-520), but I don't think this streams media from a Samba share, only from another Media PC. But, I like the look of this device. Can someone give me suggestions on similar products or a cheap way to build my own. Thanks!
Wondering How Others Organize Files on Home Network? I currently have 3 pc's on my home network: Desktop 1 (Main PC) Desktop 2 (Child PC) Laptop (Mine) Originally, Desktop 1 was to act as my "server" & I added additional partitions as follows: (D:) = Media (Pictures, Music, etc.) (E:) = Data (My Docs, Desktop Enhancements, etc.) (F:) = Web (Graphics, Web Pages, etc.) So far, so good. Now, let's say I'm on the laptop & need to change something on my resume. I'd go to My Network Places - Data (E) - My Docs - & find my resume. Problem is, I can not save the file back onto Desktop 1, because of permissions. So now my resume has been saved to the (D:) shared partition on the Laptop instead of Desktop 1. I realize I could check "Allow Network Users to Change my Files"- BUT then I have to worry about my 12 year old on Desktop 2. So, how are the rest of you syncing your networked pc's & backing up these files (as in an external drive) without having duplicates all over the place? Also what is the hierchy of folders & subfolders?
which program streams music and video from home server? I need a program that can stream the music and videos stored on my server's hard drive to the remote computer (over the internet) and play it within the browser. What I do not need are similar programs that require me to upload my many gigs of media to their site and I'd have to login to their site to access it. to be a little more specific, I want to be able to get on any computer with internet access, connect to my server, and use a program to play my music and videos through the web browser. If possible, i would like something with a nice library look, like itunes. Know of anything? I heard programs like Vibe streamer, Slim server, kplaylist, mytunesrss, jinzora. I like vibe streamer but i dont think it does video. slim server is nice but also, i dont think it does video. my tunesrss is also good but i dont think it does video by default. I heard that jinzora does what i am looking for, but I cannot confirm it.
What is the best solution to create a home server with UpnP streaming and storage with multiple devices? Hi guys, I want to find out the best solution for what I am looking for. I have a Macbook, a Macbook Pro with Vista and Leopard, and a PS3. I would like the ability to access the storage from any computer (Vista and Mac side), and be able to open and store files from the computer through our network. Also, I would like to support media streaming with the PS3. I know of a few suggestions, like getting a NAS device, or using a USB hub that connects to the network, then attach all the drives I want. It would be nice to be able to access the server from the web pretty easily, and the fastest speeds possible. I appreciate all suggestions.
Does anyone know how I can obtain Windows XP home installation media without the product key? Hello! On my sony vaio, there is a Windows XP Home Edition key. The VAIO runs Windows Server 2008, so that key is not active. I was wondering if I could buy a Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM without the license key, but have it be genuine, for very cheap? OR is it illegal to download a full XP Home ISO and burn it to a cd and use the key from my VAIO? Thank you very much! :-) Priyanka you are a SPAMMER!!!!!!!!! A LAZY SPAMMER WHO DOES NOT DESERVE .23 OF A POINT!!!!!!!
