Do HP computers need only HP replacement power supplies? The power supply on my HP 7935 is out. I bought one, but have not put it in. I was told that HPs require only HP replacement power supplies. Is that true? What else should I know?

HP video card requirements for power supplies? Hey, I was just a little confused on an HP computer I plan on purchasing from Best Buy. On their site it states that the PC (link below) has an AMD Radeon 6450, but when I checked the power supply unit of that specific PC on HP's website it says that the power supply included in the model is just 250 watts. So I checked the requirements of the video card (link below) and it says it requires at least 400 watts, which the computer doesn't have, but nonetheless comes with the video card. I was just hoping if someone can clear it up since, I plan on replacing just the video card soon enough, but don't want to be held back because of the power supply. Are HP power supplies any good? OK, so i will soon be building a computer with an ide cd drive and a sata hdd. It will have a pentium D at 2.0 GHZ and eventually have a 9800GT and thats about it. So will an HP PSU cut it or should I get a thermaltake? The psu is 500 watts btw.

Is the power supply in a HP 2200d easily replaced? I must have had a power surge that blew the power supply in my PC and apparently killed my HP 2200d laserjet also. My hp Pavilion won't turn on, no power at all.? I replaced the 180 watt with a 300 watt ATX some time ago. But it died. When I push the on/off button, there is a click but nothing, nada. Power cord is ok cuz I used it on the video to check. No fuse on the supply. Also, I have the impression that hp power supplies have a little power on the 3v(?) even when turned off to save the little battery. I have no power on the battery line. I checked every lead and there is no power on any. With luck it is just the power supply & nothing on the motherboard screwed up. Testing power supply for HP slimline. Is it the board or supply? I am trying to test a power supply for an HP slimline. I dont have a tester but I can tell you this. When I plug the power supply up all alone the little green light on it turns on. As soon as I plug it into the motherboard, the light turns off and the unit wont power on. Any ideas? Thanks!

How do I fix my hp compaq laptop (advanced power-related troubleshooting)? The other day, my laptop power indicator LED stopped lighting up. The battery of course died since it couldn't recharge and now my laptop will not turn on. I have performed quite a bit of troubleshooting so far but do not know what to do next. It is a HP Compaq NC4000. Here are some things that should help anyone reading this where I'm at: -Laptop will not turn on (battery currently in it is discharged) -Laptop will turn on when my spare battery is in it (but neither battery will charge). - AC power adapter voltage confirmed (at the tip of the connector) 18.5 VDC output via multimeter and oscilloscope but voltage is not reaching AC power indicator LED (wiggling the connector does not make it flash). - If 18.5 VDC is spliced into the charging cable from an external (HP E3631A) power supply, there is still no voltage reaching the AC power indicator LED (again, wiggling has no visible effect). No current is being drawn from the HP power supply. -There is continuity from the black ground/negative wire of the power jack of the laptop (and from the stripped and exposed AC adapter cable) to one of the terminals in the battery compartment. -There is NO continuity from the red positive wire of the power jack of the laptop (and from the stripped and exposed AC adapter cable) to one of the terminals in the battery compartment (not sure if there actually should be - perhaps this connection is normally open until the power button is pressed and the laptop turns on). Does anyone have any ideas before I open it up and start looking inside? I can't think of anything else to do but I'm hesitant to take that step. By the way, I have multimeters, waveform generators, oscilloscopes, and adjustable power supplies available for use while troubleshooting. I've spent the last 8 years of my life working in radio maintenance so I can likely understand anything regarding electronics that you tell me, I just haven't spent much time working on computers (nor do I have an advanced troubleshooting guide for this) so I need help here. Thanks in advance! One more thing: I have a docking station that allows the power cable (and just about anything else) to be routed to a different (80? pin rectangular) jack on the bottom. Using this route of applying power to the laptop instead of the standard power jack produces the same result. Thus, I conclude that the power jack of the laptop is not broken since it can be bypassed with the same result (whether I power it with the standard AC adapter or the external power supply). ------------------------------------------------------------ Thanks for the response. I tried reseating both memory chips - no change. Since the computer does turn on and boots normally to windows xp with my charged spare battery (except that it refuses to charge batteries that are placed in it), I'm guessing that the problem lies elsewhere. My guess is that something is broken/defective at the internal unit that accepts the external DC voltage and distributes it to other needed sections (like whatever component outputs the charging voltage to the battery). I don't have a schematic to follow the path myself and (although I have the keyboard removed now and I can see some of the innards), I'm hesitant to start pulling everything apart until I have a bit more focus and direction. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Why are all the HP desktop computers power supply info blocked? On both Futureshop.com and Bestbuy.com the power supply information for every HP desktop is listed as "Information not Available". HP Slim, where can I find bigger power supplies? Okay, so I have an HP Slim (low-profile), and it has a 7100 GS (gpu) video card. Which isn't the greatest. I'm looking to upgrade this card...so I can do things like play newer video games; and what now. The only draw back is my computer only has a 160watt power supply (psu). HP 1250n power supply? I have HP Pavillion 1250n and i have to upgrade my graphic card, but they also said that I have to upgrade my power supply as well. I asked for the power supply and they said it was 85 dollars. I mean, I can get better ones at newegg.com for 20 dollars. DOES IT HAVE TO BE FROM HP?

HP m8530f -- Power Supply? I just bought the above pc...thinking I could do it myself..I purchased second internal DVD burner (HP) One problem as I found out from an HP customer service rep (via online chat). This pc model m8530f', the power supply only has: one 24 - pin ATX power connector and one 4-pin ATX power connector; all foreign to me. Basically to install a second internal drive the power supply needs to have 2 power connectors -- makes perfect sense! BUT WHY THE HELL PUT SECONDARY BAY AVAILABE...BUT NOT INSTALL A POWER SUPPLY TO SUPPORT IT!!! WTF!!!! Anyway around this without changing power supply? Obviously I can buy an external burner.....

I do have a PCI Express Slot (x16) . HP Compaq Power Supply Question? Yesterday my HP Compaq D530 computer turned off after I put in an external harddrive. Now it wont start. So it looks like the power supply. I put in another one to test it to see if that what it was, and the motherboard light lights up (it flickers if the old power supply is on). But again the computer won't start up once I try to turn it on. Could I be missing some plug, and that is why it is not starting up? (I know there are two on the motherboard, and others for the cd drives, hard drives etc.) Also when I was testing it I used a 24 pin for the 20 pin in the motherboard. If it is not the powersupply could it be something else? ANy help would be greatful!
Why does my other HP computer keep shorting/burning out it's power supply? I have a 2nd computer from HP that keeps shorting/burning out the power supply. I had the computer for about 7 months and I went through about 7 power supply units. I have the computer plugged into an expensive surge protector {$50} built for computers, so I don't think it's a surge problem. What else could be going on?

HP Laptop power supply not working? I bought an HP laptop recently. Sorry but I havn't got the model number with me. The problem is that it wont work without a power cable. HP Pavilion Laptop Power Supply Issues? My HP Pavilion laptop computer has been having problems with the power supply. I have gone through about 5 a/c adapters in the past year because the connectors keep getting bent up. You have to screw around with the cord to get it in just the right position to get the laptop to make a connection and charge the battery. Eventually the little connector gets so bent out of whack it breaks, and voila, I have to buy a new a/c adapter. Someone told me that there is a problem with the inside of the laptop, which causes you to have to bend the cord about so that it makes a connection. I don't know what the issue is, but I'm tired of paying $50 a pop every 2 months for a new power cord. Does anyone know what's wrong with it? Is it fixable?
I need to replace a power supply in an HP Pavilion 7940 it has a Bestec ATX-1523D in it now.? I have an extra power supply laying around from some junk computers and would like to use an AGI HP-235ATXAK but the main board plug has a white wire, the Bestec is missing the white wire. Will it work anyway? The Bestec is a 150W and my AGI is a 235W. The size of the power supply case is smaller on the Bastec but it looks like the power supply I have will fit in the computer case. All the voltages are the same but the amps are higher on the AGI in the wires that are on both plugs and the wires are in the same places. The missing wire is at pin 18. Anyone know if my AGI will work?

New Power Supply For HP Pavillion a1217n? Ello, So I installed a new video card onto my HP Pavillion a1217n. Ever since then, it's been crashing randomly for no apparent reason. I think it's because of the power supply that came with my computer does not have enough juice to power that baby. My question: Is it possible to replace the power supply (I think it is), and if so, what TYPE of power supply do I need? There's the standard ATX, micro ATX, etc. I don't know which TYPE to choose. Do I really have to buy this graphic card/power supply from HP? OK so I want to change my crap integrated video card to something that can perform well during online games. I went to HP online help, and this is what the guy ended up saying... "You will have to purchase a nvidia GeForce 7600GX PCI Express X16 video card and a 350W power supply. The video card is available locally, however, their compatiblity and performance have not been test with the computer. And I would recommend to purchase the power supply from HP because the power supply dimensions should fit in the computer chassis." Is this legit? I tried finding that exact video card model on google and I couldn't find anything. He said the card would be $100, and the power supply would be $50. The only way to order it through HP is over the phone, and I don't really wanna do that, I'd rather go online or to a store for it. Can I upgrade the power supply unit in my HP m7640n Media Center PC? HP tech support said yes last night now the guy tonight tells me NO. I purchased a better graphics card that requires 420 W of power. My HP that I just bought only has 300 W. Fry's Elctronics says I can upgrade and they sold me a 600 W Cooler Master ATX12V 2.0v unit. HP desktop New power supply, turn power on and a couple seconds later, the computer turns off.? I have a HP Pavillion a430n w/ a 250w power supply. the power supply died on me so I decided to buy another one. I bought an off brand 400 w power supply that fit perfectly. I plugged it in and the computer would turn on, then a few seconds later, make a click in either the power supply (i think) or somewhere else and turn off. The power button on the HP would blink blue until I held the power button (like it went ito sleep mode). Could this be because I got a bigger power supply and it just isnt taking? could there be different wire settings and it is shutting off to prevent from blowing the motherboard? HELP!!!!! I checked the wires, they were all good, i checked the wires, they are different colors, i have a HP, not a dell. What kind of power connection does a HP vs15 LCD monitor have? I've been trying to find specific informaiton as to if it uses a standard AC power cable or if it has an external power supply. Friend of mine has one, he's not smart enough to tell the difference and I don't feel like making two trips to his place. If it uses a power-brick, could you give me the power ratings (ouput power...voltage, amps, etc..).
