How to secure a used HP laptop for sale (erasing files, security, etc)? i posted an item a little while ago re: Consumer reports thoughts on identity safety and the such in the realm of selling and disposing of PC's; how there was possibly a void in how securely folks take care of such matters when selling a laptop, e.g. I have a HP dv9500t- I'm selling it; will the restore disc (taking it back to out of box state) be sufficient? Anyone familiar w/ HP's that can lend a thought or two? Thnx
HP laptop broke twice during the 4 months I've used it. I want to claim the "Sale of Goods act" here in the UK? Last April I bought an HP laptop in the US. I did not use it (since I live in the UK) until I visited the house it was sent to in July. Within a month the laptop started shutting off whenever it felt like.No it was not overheating, it would shut down after being off for hours. I sent it in to HP here in the UK and they did nothing to fix it. So of course a month and a half later it shut down repeatedly again. It shut down during Bios, OS installs etc. I've had nothing but issues with the thing. The sound doesn't work right even. HP has a worldwide guarantee, but only 90 days to return for a refund. Obviously I hadn't even USED it before those 90 days. I want to know what I can do so I don't get ripped off even more. I want my money back or a laptop was functions like it should have to begin with...Any suggestions?
Is Lenovo a good brand of laptop? Is it as good as Compaq or HP brand of laptops? I'm not really familiar w/ this brand of laptop, since our company uses Dell and most people I know use either Compaq or HP... But I saw a Lenovo laptop (G450) and I liked its specs, but I still want to know: Is Lenovo any good in terms of stability and performance? How about security? After-sales service? (I live in the Philippines) Upgradeability? Gaming? (just for reference, Command & Conquer Red Alert 2) And lastly, can you recommend other good laptops at a cost of up to PhP 30,000 or roughly $650? Appreciate the help, thanks!!
HP Pavilion dv2911us or HP Pavilion dv2945se? I'm looking into buying one of these HP laptops. It will be used for school, watching movies, music, pictures, internet, etc. Which one is the better buy? First I was sold on the dv2945 because it was on sale for $699 but its back up to original price now and the dv2911 is on sale at Office Depot for $549. Thanks!
Is this "14 inch" HP laptop too small for an incoming freshman college student? I have been laptop searching for a decently priced, nice laptop for college in the fall. This will be my first laptop..I did use my brother's handydown 15.6 inch for a short period however, so I'm accoustomed to that screen size. The problem now is I have come across a likabble laptop on sale at Office Depot that has great specs. The only issue of concern is the screen size which is specfically 13.4 inches on the HP site but advertised as 14 inches. Do you think this will be comfortable for me? I 'm scared that I will hate it after spending 5 hours everyday doing school work like writing essays and labs. I will be a Biology major btw if that helps. Portability traveling around campus vs Comfort/nonannoyance during long hours of school work Here is the laptop: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/product/XH124UA%2523ABA

which laptop should i get? Hi guys :) Im looking to buy a laptop im only in gr. 10 but i find that having a laptop would be so much easier than carrying 4 binders and textbooks I will be studing either health/life science and then either be a family physician or a dentist. I plan on using this laptop for AT LEAST 3 years or as long as possible I looked at the macbook 13.3" and HP laptops on sale it seems to me that the HP laptop has much bigger hard drive and RAM but it cheapter than the mac which only has half of HP can you explain and tell me which one i should be getting? or other good quality laptops that is light, not too big but can still handle word processing, lots of music, video's other entertainment (and perhaps gaming, it doesnt have to) thank you so much and sorry for the length of this question ^^; Mac www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10099352&catid=22156 HP www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0926INGFS10100239&logon=&langid=EN Mac http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10099352&catid=22156 HP http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0926INGFS10100239&logon=&langid=EN my budget is around $1300 maximum
acer laptop or hp laptop? my choices are the acer aspire 6930 with the intel centrino. it has 4gb of ram and 320gb hard drive. my problem is that i want a laptop that will last me through high school and college and i hear that acer laptops break easily and acer is not realiable. my other choice is the hp dv7-1243. what im concerned about is that it has amd turion x2 dual-core mobile processor and i hear that amd is not as good at all as the new intel dual-core 2s.....also, i hear that intel is much better. i will also be using the laptop for school and office work and i hear that amd is not good for that. anyways, it has 4gb ram and 320gb hard drive.....its also on sale lol.. so what do you think? do you think that the hp with the amd processor will still perform as well as intel?
Cheap HP Mini For Sale? Okay I am looking for a cheap (Hopefully under $250) HP Mini or any laptop really, I need atleast a very good amount of GB space (sort of the sandard amount, around 150GB would be nice) and it has to be legit, not broken or refurbished, it can be a used however, but id like a clean slate, no old memory and no old files id have to delete.
How do I reset my HP Laptop with Vista? I have an HP Laptop that has decided to slow to almost a complete stop despite running multiple virus software and most of the popular system tune-up programs. I'm kinda left with the thought that I need to do a total system restore and lose all my software that's installed. I got the computer from Circuit city and I can't find any restore disc that might have come with the laptop (it was an open box sale). So my question is: What's the best way to get a fresh start without losing all my drivers, settings, ect..if possible and is there any chance Circuit City might provide me with an HP restore disk if I should have had such a thing when I bought the computer? Is there somewhere on the web were I can download a copy and use a burned CD to MAKE a restore disk? Many thanks for the help and I'll look forward to your suggestions.
Faulty HP Laptop out of warranty? My girlfriend and her sister both went to American and bought two of the best laptops they had. They were HP DV6-2144nr's and ran for 1200 each. They came with a one year warranty, and were bought 12/25/10. Towards the end of the warranty (call it October or November) it started having battery issues, and running hot and such. It had to be plugged in all the time, otherwise the computer would randomly shut down on us. Both me and my girlfriend work and go to college, so we were always very busy and never got around to fixing it. I finally had the time, and took her laptop apart, and cleaned out the fan and heat sink (which wasn't too dirty) upgraded the bios, and upgraded any other available drivers for it. This didn't do anything for the heat or the battery. At this point the warranty had just ended, and HP was no help whatsoever. I figured Oh well, I would get a new battery, since that is something that can commonly go wrong with a computer. So before I get a new battery, the computer ran really slow one day. I restarted it now the hard drive is clicking and defective as well. I tried doing all the chkdsk /r, getting an adapter to go usb, and boot disks, with nothing. Since she had important information and pictures, I tried the freezing of the drive and bumping of it with no success. I tried pursuing this with HP, without any help, so I got an identical hard drive for it (Hitachi 320 gb). and reinstalled windows and such. Everything worked, but we lost all of our files. Yesterday was the kicker. She had her laptop on, used it that day, and closed it. I went to use it, and there was a black screen. I restarted it, only to see black screen with caps/numb lock lights blinking in twos- meaning a corrupt bios. At this point we've got ourselves a useless pile. I called HP again and complained and they did nothing. The other laptop which her sister uses way more than ours hasn't had any problems and doesn't run hot. We do not abuse our computer whatsoever, and it still looks brand new. At this point I am looking to get this fixed on HP's expense for a faulty product. Any information on/the pursuit of action would be appreciated. I looked into the Sales good act, and BBB, and I will probably write a letter to HP. What is the best course of action? Thanks in advance for your input I "upgraded the bios" which would only "brick it" if it lost power/ didn't complete. It was a bios upgrade straight from hp for the dv6-2144nr. As far as freezing and bumping the hard drive, do some research before you try to make someone other than yourself look like an idiot.
Shall i take the HP or the Samsung? I recently have been looking into buying a new laptop for work, but i haven't had much look. Then after all the looking i stumbled into a great sale for all laptops. I told the people about my situation and they told me about some laptops which are fast and speedy to use. They advised me to buy a HP or a Samsung, but im unsure about HP because i had one of them before and they are so slow!! And the programmes didn't respond. I don't know if they have upgraded the HP laptops now, but i don't want to spend hundreds on one which wont work! But which one shall i buy now??? HP or Samsung??
What is a good docking station for the hp dv6700t? I want to get a docking station for my hp dv6700t. The one that HP offers is on sale for $200 (normally it's $250). That sounds really expensive just to plug a laptop in. Does anyone know if there is a cheaper docking station available? I just want to be able to use a wireless keyboard and mouse with my laptop. That's all I need.
Anyone own an HP laptop, if so how is it? I've been shopping around for a laptop after my Dell desk top's motherboard went out after 3 years. My brother recommended an HP, he's had his for about 2-3 years and it's taken a pretty good beating for a laptop. I've looked on Costco's website and saw an HP pavilion laptop in a back-to-school sale ad for Office max, it has the same features as the laptop I looked on on Costco's site except the screen on it is 2 inches higher and doesn't come with the printer Costco tossed in if I buy it from them. I had heard form my Dad that Dell used to be one of the top computers around but now they've lost their touch, I decided to skip toshiba since a lot of their products aren't that great even though I do have a DVD player from said company that is almost 5 years old and it's still working to this day. But still does anyone have an HP laptop, if so how is it?

HP DV6-3052TX LAPTOP PROBLEMS? i just got 3052tx model and it started to have problems . so i decided to recover it.when the system restarted for recovery it says no recovery partition and now i have no windows any longer.the hp customer care says the hard disk is faulty and will replace with a repaired old hard disk even when the laptop is hardly two weeks used (pathetic after sales support ). so i wanted to know is there a general problem in these model.
Should I get an HP dv5t special edition or an HP dv4t, if the price is the same? After doing a lot of research, I'm debating between two laptops: the HP dv5t special edition in ceramic white, and the dv4t in moonlight white. The specs for both will be the same: Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit) Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T6400 (2.0GHz) 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD The major difference, for me, is the 15.4" High Def Display (dv5t se) versus the 14.1" High Def Display (dv4t), which makes the dv5t a bit larger and heavier. On paper, it doesn't seem like it would be much larger/heavier, but comparing them in person, my initial reaction was "the dv5t is too big." I'm also debating whether to get a Blu-Ray drive or not. Right now I have an old, bulky, Sony Vaio. It's incredibly heavy, so portability is important to me. I will be using my new laptop mainly for school and entertainment. I like games, but I don't need a gaming machine. With the specs the same, I guess aesthetics is all that matters. I like the keyboard of the special edition more (it feels sturdier... although the dv4t keyboard isn't terrible). Both are white (which I like), but I particularly like the design of the special edition. HP is doing an awesome deal on three of their white laptops right now, including these two, where the base price for all of them is $650, regardless of the original price. My budget is $800, but both laptops will be less than that with the sale (even if I customize it a bit). I'm just having trouble deciding. Dv4t or dv5t special edition? And should I get a Blu-Ray drive or not? Thanks in advance :)

I want the game to run smoothly - no lagging, decent graphics, and smooth game play (I have 2 hours in between my classes this summer and I'd like to have something to kill time!). I know it won't play as well on my desktop HP, but anything that will make me happy for a couple hours at a time will be just fine.
What is the best laptop in a £500 budget? ASUS? Toshiba? Lenovo? HP? Which one? NO unreliable ACERs? I have been(for 2months) and still am looking for a laptop on the internet but there are sooooo many and its soooo confusing that I have the 'embarras de choix' as it is said in french! I am in the UK, so I would buy online from dabs.com, ebuyer.com, laptopsdirect.com, dell.com/uk or any other place which you can recommmend me where there are better and cheaper deals. Buying online (from a reliable and well-known source/seller) is better than buying in shops/PC World. The other day I went to Tottenham Court Road to check out the laptops on sale and the prices are crazy! £100 to £150 diferrence in price compared to online shops. So I dont mind buying online. As far as i know, ebuyer has better and cheaper deals upto now. I HOPE I GET AS MANY HELPFUL ANSWERS ASAP..THANK YOU VERY MUCH Processor preferred: INTEL Core 2 Duo Specs preferred: Good sound quality from speakers, Webcam, inbuilt microfone, bluetooth if available, ergonomic design. Please have a look atsome of the laptops I have been smitten by but I want to have some advice from you if its a good investment and which one is best to buy or do you have a better alternative to offer me? thanks The asus: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/144181 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/139123/ -----siemens http://www.ebuyer.com/product/144182...roduct_reviews ---asus lenovo: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148295 Are asus. lenovo, siemens RELIABLE laptop brands? what about each one's range(link above)? I cant find any cheap Toshiba with about the same specs as the ones above, Dell Studio 15 is good but there is no webcam(and is dell reliable enough?) I have answered the questions below to narrow my search: General Questions 1) What is your budget? Under £500 2) What size notebook would you prefer? c. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen 4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? Acer--I have heard too many negatives Toshiba--- Nice laptop Sony--I would love to have one but I would not buy one as far as my budget is concerned since buying a Vaio is much paying for the brand. Power Adapters for laptops: "straight" or "L-shaped" ... does it matter? First, apologies for not using the correct terminology. I need a replacement power adapter for my HP ZV500 series laptop. The adapter it came with is "L-shaped" at the input end (going into the computer) with a yellow ring around the tip. The ones for sale I am seeing often have "straight" input ends, also with the yellow ring. They say they work with my model. But I am trying to play it safe before I shell out the cash.

Do all the laptops have the GHz advertised in the processor? I am currently looking into purchasing a laptop to retire my 2004 Lenovo s12. I love my little Lenovo but it received a virus a few months ago and I was forced to reinstall windows and all the drives to the best of mine and some of my techy friends. It simply does not perform as good as it used to and I think it is time to give it a rest. I have done a great deal of research on mostly models within the range of $200-$450 with more than a 12” screen. I only want Asus, HP (Compaq), Samsung, Sony, Toshiba and of course Lenovo brands. My Lenovo has an Intel Atom processor with 1.6ghz. I am looking for more than 2ghz and more than 2gb of ram (that is upgradable) the more the GHz the better. The problem is that I think I put in too much research and have come across some laptops that display (place Processor name here) and has so and so amount of GHz but some sites and reviews claim that the products processor has the performance of a lesser one than advertised (this is mostly with the Toshiba. I looked at what they had for sale and the AMD brands are often compared to Intel processors with much less GHz). I want to know if there is something else I should look for in a processor , if it is just propaganda to make Intel look better or if AMD processors are honestly not as good as Intel ones. The following are laptops that have caught my eye so far: SAMSUNG R Series R540-JA06 (From newegg.com) COMPAQ Presario CQ56-219WM Refurbished (also from newegg.com) Compaq – Presario CQ56-115DX (from bestbuy.com) Satellite C655D-S5120 Refurbished (from Toshiba.com) I am planning to make a purchase for one of these in the next week or so, any others you would like to point out is totally fine or websites as well. Also I have already checked Walmart, Radioshack, Circuitcity, all of the namebrand websites mentioned above and a number of other websites as well. Currently I am looking up each processor for reviews on third party sites. If you have any laptop that you know of that I might be interested in please do not be afraid to post it. Just as long as it is one of the brands listed, has 2 or more gb of ram and has a faster processor than my 2004 Lenovo Ideapad s12's Intel Atom processor.
Should I get an HP, Dell or Lenovo? So my last laptop was a small inspiron mini and it didn't really do much for me and it was annoying to work with mainly because of its size, so now i am trying to get a new laptop for the upcoming school year. I want a laptop that is still light-weight like my last one but i want a larger screen, roughly between 13-14 inches. I did a lot of research and came up with four laptops that I think fit what i want physically. The three are HP Pavilion g4t, HP Pavilion dm4t, Inspiron 14z Laptop, and IdeaPad U460 14". My question is which laptop/brand do you think is the best and would work the best for a student. I will be playing some games on it such as COD. I also don't really care if it has an optical drive or not because i already have an attachable optical drive because the inspiron mini did not have an optical drive so i had to get that with the inspiron mini. I would prefer an intel core i5 processor but i can deal with an i3 and i would also like to save as much money as possible so if you know a cheap way to get these laptops or if you know about any sales or coupons that i could use then that would be great. Also if you have any other recommendations that you think would suit me well that i didn't list, feel free to post them also.
How important is CPU clockspeed? I plan to buy a new laptop for my incoming freshman year in college. I am currently using an older generation HP laptop that I bought about four years ago. It is Pentium 4, 3.2 GHZ, 512 mb, and 80 gb. I spent over $1500 just for the 3.2 GHZ clock speed, which I thought was going to make a big difference on how fast my laptop runs. But it still lags like my old 1.6 GHZ desktop. Now when it comes to buying the new laptop, I am wondering if I should spend almost $250 extra to configure a 2.2 GHZ core 2 duo. Is that really worth it? Also, I've come to realize that memory is a very important factor that decides how fast the applications run. So, I am definitely configuring a 2GB for the new laptop. But my second question is, will it be different if I just buy a 2GB memory kit (corsair, kingston, pny, etc.) for around $50 (on sale) to put into the new laptop, or do I have to spend the $125 to let the manufacturer upgrade for me? I'm planning to buy either a Dell XPS m1530 or Inspiron 1420 or a HP dv6500t. Please answer these two questions for me. Thank you so much!
confused about processors and RAM? i am looking to get a new laptop, spending around £350-£380. I understand the basics about what processors and memory are about, but I am confused about what I should actually go for. I have seen some HP laptops, one is in the sale and has the new Intel Core i3 processor, but only 2GB memory. One has a Dual Core Celeron T3500 with 4GB RAM and another one has the Intel Pentium T4500 also with 4GB memory. I want my laptop to be able to do things like browse the internet, email, word & excel, download & watch videos & TV programmes, watch DVD's and picture editing using Photoshop. What do you think? Thanks
Highly recommended laptop brand? After having my computer for 3 years the motherboard on my dell desktop went out. Anyway, I'm looking to get a laptop like the one my Mom has(which I've been using for now). I've looked in the ads for back school sales nad so far the main laptops I've seen on sale are the HP and toshiba brands. I've seen Sony, Acer and Compaq too, my brother has an HP which has taken a pretty good beating, my sister had a Toshiba in during her college days(2001) before it went out 5 years later. I've been looking at laptops on sale and ones that are in a reasonable price range. I hear HP and Toshiba are good brands but by the end of the day I'm just interested in a laptop that's a good buy and is decent. Can anyone recommend a good laptop brand?
VISTA security won't let me open password-protected documents? maybe it's not vista's problem rather the security that comes with it. i'll try to make it short..... my XP laptop from 2004 died this september. Thank goodness i have a home computer with XP on it, Dell, from 2002. Also have a new (2007) ACER home computer, it came with VISTA. When i brought the laptop to computer tech for fixing, I turned on the ACER(2007) for the first time. A friend and i email using password protected WORD documents. On the ACER (2007) home computer, on VISTA, all i had to do to get around the 'security' problem was disable ALL the firewall protection and then suddenly i could open my password documents. I think it was Symantec; could be AVG or Norton's. not positive. meanwhile...... wait for thanksgiving day sale to get new laptop. was first in line at office depot for nice new HP laptop. Computer tech down the street said he could wipe VISTA and put on XP, which is what he also did for my ACER(2007) ((while the two computer were both in the tech shop, I was using the old DELL from 2002)). when i went to pick it up the flashy new laptop, he said that this version of VISTA wouldn't allow him to "download drivers" or whatever, and something about the right 'fit' with the internal devices (not sure what that's all about) so that he COULD give it a different OS. (perhaps in the year between 2007 and 2008, microsoft people figured something out and now force you to pay for drivers~!). FIRST question, why did the home computer from 2007/ACER allow him to wipe VISTA and give me XP and why won't the new (2008) laptop let him do the same? SECOND question, when i tried to open a password-protected document from the new laptop, from the original email location (earthlink), it would not allow it, but then i forwarded it to yahoo but still could not open, so i know it's not an email security problem. I went to the control panel to find the firewall settings but it's not the same... it looks different... and there is no option to let me 'disable' anything for even 15minutes/30minutes/60minutes like i used to... Is there ANY way to get my VISTA to let me open a friggin' document that is password protected???? it's just a WORD document~!!!!! i'm going out of town for 3 weeks otherwise i'd ask the tech to do whatever he could to wipe VISTA and give me XP (I don't have time to wait, now that i've found this out)...(i will do the XP thing when i get back) For now, i just want to open my d@#$%^ documents on my laptop~!!
Sony or Toshiba Laptop? Hi i have an old HP netbook that i use all the time. Since, it is pretty slow and no DVD+R drive i wanted to buy a new one. At Bestbuy on black friday, there will be a Sony Vaiao latop sale that includes a Blu ray Disc and laptop case. The laptop has a 4GB mem. and 320GB RAM for $499.00. On the other hand, there is a Toshiba laptop that is for sale together with an HP printer . The laptop has a 4GB mem. and 500GB RAM. In which is for $499.00 too. I cannot decide what laptop is best for me. I wanted the sleek design of Sony but i wanted the internal memory of Toshiba. Please help me on this matter. I need your opinions. Thanks! Well, according to best buy. The sony has a intel pentium dual core while toshiba has AMD V series processor. So, what do you think is best?
Should I buy this laptop now or wait? The laptop I have right now doesn't really work for me. It's a 17 inch HP with 1 gig that BARELY runs Vista, it has a 1.6 GHz processor, integrated graphics, a 2 cell battery and a 160gig hard drive. I use my computer mainly for school, and if i use a flash drive to boost system memory it does the job fine. I mainly use my laptop because while i do have a desktop, it's 6 years old. I was looking into getting a netbook, which after seeing how little they can do i decided to buy a new laptop. The ones in my price range (about $500) didn't really impress me. However, after earning $500 in rebates and coupons, I can get a 16 inch laptop with a 2.2 GHz processor, 4 gigs of ram, a 320 gig harddrive, blu-ray player, thumbprint reader, 12 cell battery, an NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics card with 512k memory, and an HD screen all for about $830. I don't need all that because it's stuff I don't use, but I'd definitely start using it if I had all that. Especially because my current battery lasts only 30 minutes before dying. I know that's cheap for what it is, and it would be nice because this would blow my desktop so out of the water that I could just get rid of it and free up space. I'm debating whether or not I get this. My parents gave me $300 to save for a PC, and my friend is willing to give me $250 for this. That leaves me to scrounge up about $300 myself, and while I can get the money, I'd empty my savings account, and my job is only giving me 5 hours a week. If I wait till, say christmas, I could save up some money and not be flat broke by the end of the deal and stressing because I can't even afford a comic book, and maybe even spend just as much and get a better machine, or get a similar machine for less. However, around that time I might not be able to get such a good deal, as the blu-ray player, thumbprint reader, hard drive, 4 gig memory, and HD screen were all free because of an HP clearance sale. If I do wait I can earn more money, but my friend won't be interested in buying my laptop for $250, and while the price may go down, with all the extra bells and whistles that make me like it in the first place, I really doubt it. So, what should I do? My coupon expires tomorrow. Do I jump on the bandwagon and buy what will end up being abuot a $2500 computer for $800 that I do have but REALLY shouldn't spend, or wait till i have money and hope a better deal comes up? I was looking to buy a new LAPTOP. not a netbook.
PLEASE HELP?! Will a 14 inch laptop be too small for college? I asked this questions 2 times already and i got like 3 responses that were that really in dept answers just yes or no. I really need input because I need to get a laptop this week. Here are the deeper details you can rad them or just straight out answer my question :) I have been laptop searching for a decently priced, nice laptop for college in the fall. I 'm scared that I will hate it after spending 5 hours everyday doing school work like writing essays and labs and me eyes were strain and I will start to get haedaches and be annoyed becuase of the smaller screen size. so the battle is Portability traveling around campus versus Comfort/nonannoyance during long hours of school work because this laptop is lightweight and more portable compared to the 15.6 common laptops. Here is the laptop I've got my eyes set on butam hesitant because of 13.3 in screen size: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/product/XH124UA%2523ABA and thank you! ALL INPUT REALLY IS cONSIDEREd AND APPRECIATED!!

The differences between the hp probook 4530s and the hp notebook g6t? I can get both laptops for $400. I've heard good things about the notebook: http://www.shopping.hp.com/series/category/notebooks/g6t_series/3/computer_store? But since the Probook (whoh is also a notebook) is on sale I wonder if it will be a better deal: http://www.shopping.hp.com/store/product/product_detail/XU015UT%2523ABA?#x2B;Pavilion&%23x2B;g6t&%23x2B;series_sdp/hp%20probook_XU015UT&omniData=hp%2Bprobook%257CHP%25252BPavilion%25252Bg6t%25252Bseries_sdp%257Ckeyword%257Cmost_popular%257C3%257C25%257C1%257C%252Fhp%2Bpro%2Bbook%257CEA%257C1%257Chp%2Bpro%2Bbook The things I'm most worried about is: how fragile one is over the other, how much space for information is there on each, and what is the beat one for a student like me who is going to be dealing with a lot of pictures and photoshop editing. I also plan to be using skype so video and ausio quality is a factor. I have an external harddrive so files can be saved there so I'm not too worried about space. I am not going to be doing much gaming, mostly internet, Microsoft word, and photoshop.
What's the best laptop for me? Hi, I've been wanting to upgrade to a laptop for a while, and since the Xmas sales are starting, I think it's a good time to think about it. I've never had one before, only a desktop, and it's a piece of crap, idk why, but it's an HP. So I have a few questions. Are HP laptops good? What brand is semi cheap but runs great? It'll be used for downloading music, music videos, using YouTube, playing MMORPG games, and other everyday websites like MySpace, etc, if it matters. I can't afford ones in the thousand dollar range though.. thanks for any help.

Which laptop should I get? ? Best buys is having some good laptops for sale this week and I am wondering which laptop I should get. I am using the laptop for building and making apps. Should I get the Toshiba Satellite or HP Pavilion? ================================= Toshiba Satellite: Price: $379 Screen: 15.6" RAM: 3GB DDR3 Hard Drive: 320GB Processor: Intel i3 2nd Generation HP Pavilion: Price: $429 Screen: 15.6" RAM: 4GB DDR3 Hard Drive: 500GB Processor: Intel i3 ================================= Personally, I am not quite fond of Toshiba because of the laptop's design. I also hear that they break quite easily. However, I have not had any Toshiba laptop experiences so if may have had, please comment below. What I am asking is: Which is the better laptop? (In terms of design, resistance (how long the laptop would last before it breaks down), processing, functionality)
Will a 13.3/"14" inch laptop be of great discomfort orr too small for an incoming studious freshman in college? Portability traveling around campus vs Comfort/nonannoyance during long hours of school work Here is the laptop: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/product/XH124UA%2523ABA It might be beneficial for me to also mention that this will be the only computer I will have with me at college..no desktop, no extra bigger screened laptop. Again I'm concerned about using a 14 inch screen everyday for long hours though I really like the portablity.
pc vs mac laptop longevity? My hp laptop died on me recently after an all-too-brief life span of two years. Unfortunately, most sales reps I've spoken with on the issue tell me two-three years is pretty average for a lot of laptops these days. But I'm a college student and I'm already drowning in tuition. I simply cannot afford to purchase a new laptop every couple of years. I've used both macs and pcs, and think they're each credible for their own reasons. What I'm really interested in is longevity. Am I better off looking for another pc laptop or trying to hunt down a refurbished macbook somewhere if I want a computer that will last a while?
Which laptop should I choose? Hello, I am in the market for a new laptop for system intensive applications like gaming, 3D modeling/rendering, running 5-10 applications at once, etc., and I would like it to last me a long time (3-4 years). I recently ordered a Lenovo Y560 IdeaPad because it was on sale for $750 off from Lenovo's website for one day only, and I didn't want to pass up such an offer. However, I am also looking at the HP dv6tse high performance laptop, and I can always cancel the order with Lenovo and order the HP if its a better laptop. Here are the specs: Lenovo IdeaPad Y560 Intel i7-720QM Processor (1.6 GHz 1333MHz 6MB Cache) with TurboBoost up to 2.8GHz Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 8GB DDR3 RAM ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 1GB 15.6" LED display 1366 x 768 500 GB 7200 RPM SATA Standard DVD recordable dual layer drive Intel Wi-Fi Link 1000 Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR 6-cell Lithium Ion Battery Backlit keyboard Price (before tax): $944.99 (after one day deal and 10% off coupon) HP dv6tse Intel i7-720QM Processor (1.6 GHz 1333MHz 6MB Cache) with TurboBoost up to 2.8GHz Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 8GB DDR3 RAM 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 Graphics 15.6" diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366x768) 500GB 7200RPM SATA Blu-ray ROM Intel Wireless Network Card No Bluetooth 6-cell Lithium Ion Battery Backlit keyboard with fingerprint reader Price (before tax): $1099.99 (with rebate and $200 off coupon) I would like to point out that I do NOT have any intention of using the bluray (maybe once or twice, but I don't need it or want it to affect which laptop I choose) on the HP and the only reason it is on there is because of a free promotion they are doing. I also don't need the fingerprint reader but I do like the backlit keyboard. Aesthetics aren't really a factor but I would like it to be at least decent looking, which they both appear to be. So, based on what people think of Lenovo IdeaPads and HP laptops and their durability and build quality, along with price differences, should I stick with the Lenovo that I ordered or cancel and go with the HP? Thanks
Bought laptop broken, need help with graphics card comparisons for a new laptop...? I bought a Toshiba Satellite A305-S6898 from Best Buy 2 weeks ago... it was on sale for $649 down from $949. It had a few problems, one being webcam the other a problem with start-up. I brought it into them within 4 days of purchase and they were going to replace it with the same model just from a different store. Today I called (since they never called me like I was told they were going to) to find out where the other computer was. Apparently the other store never shipped it and they sold out of them, they had 5 in stock a week and a half ago. The BB employee I spoke with told me they could send mine out for repair and it would be another week and a half to two weeks before I got it back. A month total dealing with this crap. I told him no way that I bought the laptop because I actually use it and to replace this one with something else. He told me they could replace it with a different brand within the same base price range (which mine base was $949). The problem is I bought the Toshiba because I wanted that specific brand and nothing else. They have another laptop there, same EXACT thing as mine except the base price is $779 and the graphics card is a bit better. Mine has a Radeon HD 3470 with 256MB video memory and the other a Radeon HD 3650 with 512MB video memory. I was told he spoke to a manager and they could not replace mine with the other laptop because of the base price difference. I don't even know if the manager knew the actual base price of mine, I think he was just told I paid $649 for it. I'd like to know if anyone knows the price difference in these graphics cards. I don't want an HP or a Dell laptop like the sales associate was trying to give me, I want the one I have just not broken and since i've already been dealing with this for 2 weeks with no help whatsoever, I think the managers should be a bit more helpful seeing as I purchased a broken model from them and my trying to get help has led me nowhere... and if I knew the actual price difference in these graphics cards it could probably help me out a bit, or if anyone has any ideas what I can do about this situation... K well first, I didn't ask to be judged on where I bought my computer... I live in a small town and needed it quick and did research on the laptop itself. Second, i'd rather not buy direct from Toshiba since I would be getting a lower quality for the price I paid.
which latpop is better? i have ordered 2 laptops: the sony vaio on sale at bestbuy for $399 and the hp g71-343 at office depot for $449 here are the links: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+VAIO+Laptop+with+Intel%26%23174%3B+Pentium%26%23174%3B+Processor+-+White/9568522.p?id=1218125774763&skuId=9568522&st=sony vaio http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/583092/HP-G71-343US-17-3-Widescreen/#reviewTab which is the better one and the one i should keep? the laptop will be used for web surfing and schoolwork
Recommendations for buying a laptop? Which laptop should I get? Honestly, I'm not too picky about which brand/features on the laptop. But I was thinking about Dell, HP, or Toshiba. The laptop would be for everyday use such as doing homework, surfing web, and watching movies occasionally. The price doesn't matter as long its like $800 or less. Just want a laptop with the medium amount of memory and speed. Besides that, it really doesn't matter. Any suggestions? Since the Labor Day Weekend is coming up, laptops would be on sale and it would be a good time to buy them. :) Also, the Labor Day Weekend is comming up so time to buy would be good
what laptop should i get? emachines eme627 or HP G60-507DX They are both about 200 dollars for black friday. I will mostly use for internet....facebook, youtube, myspace. http://www.emachines.com/products/products.html?prod=eME627-5279 http://www.it-echo.com/2009/11/23/hp-g60-507dx-laptop-bestbuys-doorbuster-2009-laptop-sales.html Which is better.

Is it possible if i could share the conection? if so how?
eMachines and HP for Black Friday? Alright. I have a dilemma. My parents told me today that they would buy me the eMachines laptop eme528-2523, for $198 at Walmarts Black Friday sale. I did some research, and found an HP g56-129wm for onlly $100 more, at $298. I told my parents about this, and they said I would have to pay the extra $100. I have since then done more research, and found that eMachines does not offer the best computer, and HP's are iffy. I know I am going to get ONE, but should I get the eMachines, or spend the extra $100 and get the HP? I want to know personal experience, and from a technical standpoint. (PS... I do video editing, using Adobe Premiere Pro. I cant afford a mega-machine or a Mac, so one of these will have to do, because they are better than my Dell Dimension from 2004 with a 80GB HD, 512MB of Ram, and onboard Video Card.)
for college, mac or windows? so i know the basic pros and cons of mac and windows...mac doesn't get viruses, but it is more expensive...windows may be harder to operate, but programs are more compatible with windows than mac... right now i use a dell, with windows xp...it's a desktop btw, so of course it's going to be different than the laptop i get...but i've also used vista, which i know is what most laptops today have...so vista wouldn't be a problem i'm looking into the hp pavilion right now...the model i want has 250 gb and 3 ram, with intel core duo...at about $700, i found it on sale then again, i could get a macbook, about $600 more, but not prone to viruses, or any other hassles that come with windows... i'll be using this laptop for the next 4 years, in college, so i just want it to be convenient and easy to use...so mac or windows? any other pros/cons of each would be greatly appreciated also...i'm going into college undecided, but i won't be majoring in math or science...meaning no engineering, biology, etc... possibly business, though
Hi. I am currently looking to buy my first laptop and was hoping someone here could suggest something.? I will be using it for word processing, occasional photoshoping, basic web design and internet access. I’m not planning of storing hours and hours of video or anything but would like a reasonable amount of memory and not less than 3Gig. Price wise I’m looking to spend around the £450 mark). Are there any laptops on the market that suit my needs and wallet size or am I living in cloud cuckoo land? (I looked at the ‘buying a new laptop’ thread for info but it seemed a bit outdated) I’ve been looking at these so far http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/354908 http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/723600/?camp_id=ppc_google_long_tail_laptops_hp_g70212em or the Gateway T-6836 (can’t find this for sale in the U.K though) Are any of these suitable or does anyone have any other suggestions. Thanks!
what kind of laptop do I need? someone make a suggestion!? am in the market to buy a new laptop. I need some assistance in choosing one however and need anyone that has good advice to give me some to point me in the right direction. Here is what I need in a laptop. It will be used for writing so I need a writing program such as Word or works, I will save all my work to a flash drive. I would like to have a media reader but it's not a neccessity since I know you can buy those extra. DVD/CD burner is nice but again a luxury item but still nice. nice size screen is good, plenty of hand room to lay my hands for resting for keyboard use since I will be using it for writing. I will be using it wireless some so battery life is important and I will be doing some EBAY work on it so that is important as well. other than that, I will probably not be doing a lot of web surfing on the computer, other than ebay work related. Most have pointed out to me that the Dual core processor is what I should go with but it does cost and my budget is limited. i have approx. $700 to $800 to spend on a laptop so stepping down from the dual core may have to be a option but which one to chose if I have to do that, if anyone wants to make me a recommendation by name, brand, model number etc, point one out and say that's the one, that's a great computer, it has great speed, great battery life, good ram, good harddrive, etc, then please, I have poured over sale paper after sale paper until I'm sick of comparing laptops side by side. I basically need someone to point me to what i need to best look at in a laptop. right now they are all running together. I don't want to make a expensive mistake today that I will regret tomorrow. so if anyone has some ideas? I'm all ears. Acer? Toshiba? HP? compaq? I have seen the Celeron M processors, I have seen the Intel centrino, I have seen the sempron? someone please point me to one and lead me in the right direction. THANK YOU! I have had so many steer me away from dell, HP stands out, but which one. I need someone to just tell me which model specifically I should go for, they are all starting to run together after looking at them for so long. Plus I don't know if i need the Dual core processor or if the other processors will do just fine for my needs. Any suggestions?
Just bought Laptop, want to exchange it, can I delete all info. put in? Well here’s how it goes. My aunt and uncle were in the market for a laptop. They are old and have never even used a laptop. All they wanted it for was Word-processing and basic internet use. So my sister was in line at Wal-Mart for the black Friday sale, and she got one those $198 EMachines laptop. Well now my uncle who, wants everything to be good quality, well known brand name, American made want to take it back for an HP. He has been calling all his friends and they tell him EMachines are crap. Well the night my sister gave it to them my aunt was willing to keep it. So we did all the information registration stuff. And then to make things worse it only had a sixty day trial of Microsoft Office Home and Student, so I had the disk at home, and put in the code on the case in to the computer. So can I delete all the info. About the computer we put in, like naming it ect.? Can I delete the Program I installed? And most importantly will WALMart take it back? What would you do or recommend?
Best use of battery to maximize battery life? I was wondering what the best use is of the laptop battery when the laptop is connected to the power cord for most of the time. A friend of mine unplugs her laptop every time her battery is fully charged and continues on using the laptop - unplugged - , plugs it back in upon battery-low, charges it again + unplugs it, ..... repeating this cycle .... Once i asked from online Hp customer sales man, he told me it's the best way to keep the battery life longer the one my friend is doing .. Or any other method by which battery life can be prolonged ?? Please comment .. No body is replying to my actual question :( please tell whether the method my friend uses for his laptop is right or not ? can anybody tell me what's the best method to prolonged my laptop battery.. i have hp dv4 ... A personal experience of anybody, not copy paste from net.
Has your laptop monitor ever burnt out and needed replacing? Or do you know anyone this has happened to? It happened to my ex.. he had a toshiba and those are really good machines. One day the monitor screen just suddenly went black and we didnt even know what the problem was until we took it in for repairs and he said the monitor needed replacing. Well i'm now using an hp pavillion and i've had it for 2 years now. When i bought this laptop, the sales guy told me it would last only 2 years. I've sent it in for repairs a lot but lately, i've been very careful with it and stuff and everything's going well. I just find myself worrying about the monitor. How long do they usually last?
I would like to sell my laptop.? I have a HP Pavillion DV laptop which I never use. It is about 5 years old and works fine. It has a 15 inch screen and is in good condition. I stopped using it after it started running a little slow and it was a bit big for my needs. Its needs a hard drive clean out, I can do this before re-sale. I'm not sure where to begin. any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks Katie
Pavilion notebook intel core 2 duo processor t6600-GOOD OR BAD? I am going to buy a new laptop because my Hp Pavilion dv6000 I had got a virus and the virus is just eating my hardware being optical drive and the audio drive. I have reinstalled it many times, token it to places to get fixed and couldn't because my laptop heats up and then shuts off often. For some reason I have weird problems with my wireless internet, i use a wire that goes from the modem into the laptop to get connection which rarely doesn't work. I cant use my lap top with out the wire...the strange part is sometimes it works with out the plug/cord and it would say Local and Internet. Most of the time I use the plug with another connection and it says Local and Internet. Anyways so I saw a laptop on sale for $774.96 dollars it's a Pavilion notebook intel core 2 duo processor t6600 with a webcam, 4 GB, 500 GB for the optical drive, and it says wireless (don't know what that means). The size of the screen is 14.1. Is this a good choice of laptop to buy, why or why not? Do you think this is a good monitor? I am a "slightly" above average PC user... Teen ager so you can kinda get a feel of how much I use my computer... I am in the process of making a list of the things I would like for Christmas, and I really want an external monitor. I own an HP laptop, and it will match the monitor perfectly... I am not willing to compromise on picking another brand. I would like to know if it is a good monitor, and if I can find a NEW one for a little bit cheaper. I only want trusted sites... Like if Circuit City is having a going out of business sale... or "Black Friday" sales... something... Thanks! http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/display/display/1/storefronts/KB744AA%2523ABA
Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme X7900 Processor? Hi, I'm going to buy an HP HDX, and throughout the customization of the laptop, I have an option to upgrade my processor. Well, I'm not going to pay HP to put a chip in my computer I can do myself. But, I'm having a lot of trouble finding the X7900 by itself. Google reveals mostly reviews, links to intels site which doesn't sell, or just lists laptops with the chip in it. So, I can't find any being sold by itself. Can someone assist me in finding this processor for sale? Preferrably not used like on Ebay or something. Thanks!

If you push any buttons it just flashes a copyright screen, then one that says starting or something like that, and then Operating system not found. It sayd to push ctrl alt b and thats what brought up the boot agent screen. Any help please..right now its on the blue screen, im awaiting further instruction...Please someone! Ok upon startup I pressed f8 a few times then a black screen came that has a bunch of info that I have no idea what it means...What does shadoded mean? Damaged Laptop Screen? I've got an Hp Pavilion Entertainment Laptop 6000. It's got a star patterned fracture in the lower left corner that can't be felt by touch that's causing the the bottom half of the screen to not display graphics properly. (The laptop is used as a desk computer so I doubt it's impact damage. Possibly it's liquid damage). My Question; can this be repaired? Does the whole screen have to be replaced? The computer was $2,000 new, a year ago, I'm wondering if the repair price will be worth it. I'm also wondering if I can do the work myself. I've experience working with desk top computer hardware repair, but have never done laptops. Finally, if it's not cost effective to repair the screen, can I hook a monitor up through the usb port? (The warranty is no longer viable. The computer was purchased through CompUsa, which shut down. Records of the sale are unobtainable).

Mine looked brand spanking new. Very fast, the battery does last only 1 1/2 hours, but I got an extra battery for $65 on eBay used and it works nicely. Came with Vista, but I put WinXP on mine and found all the drivers on the internet. The construction is very sturdy hard plastic, none of the cheap flimsy stuff. Overall the value is great, it feels and looks more durable than laptops of the past, and is fast. Great buy. REVIEW BY: Rick M. Reviewed Aug 07, 2008 I bought this laptop a week ago.and received it Wednesday. Excellent condition, I would have thougt I just picked it up at a store. My only problem was when I allowed Norton Internet Security to load (60 day trial)and then brought up the internet, half way through loading, the system locked up. The only way to free it up was to manualy power down. I unistalled Norton and installed AVG Free. NO more problems !!!! This is a very fast easy to use laptop with all the bells and whistles. Also very fast shipping,3 days. VERY HAPPY REVIEW BY: fraqtured Reviewed Aug 06, 2008 i bought the T1625 which is essentially the same specs as this, and wanted to input the impression i drew from the t1625. first off, great price, amazing features, and with a laptop cooler running $40 dollars for a middle of the road model, this laptop will run cool [the only complaint i have found on these was the heat] and you will have picked yourself up a top with features running in some cases nearly twice as much in price of a non refurbs, which will only be the refurbs of tomorrow. run all the updates through gateway, and do a clean reinstall and pertition reformat when you unpack, it, it will take a little bit of time, but will point you in a much faster direction. this laptop is highly recomended in my opinion. REVIEW BY: Reviewed Aug 05, 2008 This is my first purchase from TD.com, and I'm very satisfied with it. The Turion 64 dualcore processor and the 2GB of RAM make short work of everything I throw at it; I have Pidgin (my IM client), Firefox (with 3 tabs open, including YouTube), LimeWire, and uTorrent all running at the same time and there is absolutely no slowdown whatsoever. My only gripes are that it gets a little bit hot when charging, and the battery only lasts for an hour and a half; I can deal with heat and the battery can be easily upgraded. The only thing you have to worry about with refurbished products is the look, not performance; Mine came with a small scratch in the top of the case, but performs like a champ. If you don't mind some minor cosmetic flaws, I'd definitely recommend this computer to anyone on a budget, especially at this price! Your computer uses memory to run your Operating System, applications, peripherals, and to generate and display graphics on your computer monitor. Video memory is a form of RAM, and is either built into your motherboard; or on a graphics card (video card). Depending on the motherboard's configuration, and that of the video card (if separate or built-in to the motherboard), your computer may have to draw on its own RAM memory to meet its video memory needs. This creates shared memory, where your computer’s RAM will be shared between its own Processor (CPU) and its graphics chip. The result is that some systems will have shared memory, some will not. If you have 2GB (for example) of system memory installed, you may notice that your system reports significantly less memory. This is because your system is using shared memory for your video. What can you do about this? You can actually configure this shared memory through your computer’s BIOS settings. However, this is a setting best left alone, since it is typically optimized for display performance, and making changes may impact display resolutions, and other video capabilities. The simplest solution is usually to either: increase your system memory; or to upgrade the video hardware. By upgrading to a new video card with built-in video memory, then turning off shared memory, you will free your system to use it's maximum potential memory, and provide your system with much more robust video features. Click Here for our Memory Options » Click Here for the latest Video Cards » How Much Memory Do You Really Have? When you look at the specifications for a computer, it will display the installed memory, and typically the maximum memory that can be installed. However, while these are real values, they represent a potential useable memory. The actual useable memory may be different from these values. The reason is simply that a computer may configured to use shared memory, which reduces the amount of RAM that is available to the CPU by using some of it for other purposes, such as for video memory. In some cases, you can control the maximum useable memory through system settings, and by upgrading to a video card that has internal onboard video memory. But always remember, that the amount of memory that your system reports, is not always the amount of actual installed memory. If you find that you need more memory, we suggest expanding your system memory, since this is the most effective performance increase, and the one that is easiest to perform . What can i get for my laptop on ebay? Its an hp laptop, has a small chip out of one corner but still works fine. the specs are: 2.6GHz Intel centrino duo Nvidia 8500M 2BG DDR2 RAM 250GB HDD What do you think I could get for this on ebay? Also, i have never sold anything on ebay before, is it hard to sell stuff if you have no previous sales? Getting a Laptop; advice for first time user/buyer? I am planning to get a laptop around a 4th of july sale. I did some research and I compared it to what I plan to do with the laptop and I also looked at net books. So what I plan to do is just use the laptop at night since I tend to stay up a lot. I usually surf the net and read random articles, and use myspace nightly I also like to stream videos and watch online episodes. That is pretty much all I am ever gonna do with the Laptop. i just like it for the convenience of using it on my bed or anywhere in my room besides the computer desk. I am willing to spend 600-700$ at most but I want one asap so I willl hopefully have about 300$ or so by a 4th of july sale this year. I want a long lasting laptop, and since I am using it only at night, I assume I'll get a long use out of it. So can you help me out please? I usually buy HP brands, but I really like the Sony Vaio but its soo expensive and I only get approximately 2hrs of battery from what best buy states on the information. I plan to use the laptop for at most 3-4 hours at night

Also for $100 more at best buy you can get the Toshiba with 4gb of ram and a 250gb hard drive. I will pretty much be using the computer for school, and internet surfing. I need some help on picking a laptop? I'm looking to buy a laptop and I've researched like everything known to man about laptops and I'm still confused. Let, me tell you about myself which might help you. I'm a 16yr old senior in HS and I'm looking to use this now and throughout college. I'd use it for school (papers, research, etc) and leisure (aim, internet surfing). That kinda thing. My top two are Dell (cheap, good ones) and Hp (more familiar w/ Hp). But here's the confusing part: mad people say Dell is crap and Hp owns or Hp is crap and Dell owns. It's like WTF. I'm hoping to buy this during the holiday season only because there's always sales going on, I can't wait, LOL and Dell has deals everyday. From Dell, I'm stuck on the Inspiron 1525 and the Mini. From Hp, I'd get the Hp Mini 1000 only b/c that's the cheapest laptop from Hp. ;] I'm not a big techperson so please don't use big words and confuzzle me. :D Thanks for your answers =]]]]] Price Range: less than $800 :]
Laptop price comparisons ? I am looking into this laptop, I THINK I have made my choice I wanted to know if I should hold out till end of december (i don't need this until jan 20 or so) or buy it now. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9077125&st=hp+pavilion+laptop&type=product&id=1218016497030 I wanted to know if you all could point me to some REPUTABLE online dealers who are selling this same computer so that I can compare prices. I am open to other suggestions. I think this computer is probably more than enough computer for the class I am using it for and for other business applications once I finish school. I just need it for excel worksheets, word documents, powerpoints, etc. I will also be using this for my MCAT practice program, sims, and rollercoaster tycoon. When I spoke with best buy and circuit city sales people they told me I don't need a seirous gaming computer to play those two games. Since I'm not a serious gamer thats not really important to me anyways. . any suggestions would be helpful
What kind of laptop should i get? I need a laptop for college next year. I really like the HP DV5T right now and have not looked at much else. I know things will change quite a bit but I don't plan to buy until June 09. Any guess on what might be available in June? 1) What is your budget? around $1400 (hopefully some coupons will give me a little bit more speding room) 2) What size notebook would you prefer? Pretty much set on about a 15" 4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? No, just needs to be reliable. It is going to be my only computer. 5) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook? Internet(with multiple windows/tabs open all the time), music, videos, movies, possibly a TV tuner 6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk? Not sure yet but i don't think this is an issue for me. 7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games? Yes, I don't play computer games right now because I have a PS3 and a horrible computer but I do plan to play some games on it. Nothing too intense though. Maybe call of duty or something... 8) How many hours of battery life do you need? The more the better but it is not a need. I expect to be plugged in most of the time. 9) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person? Perfectly fine 10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc. Well I will probably be buying it with Vista and if I end up not liking Vista I will downgrade to XP or Linux. (I've never used linux before but as soon as i get my new computer my current computer is going to become linux instead of XP) 11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer? at least 1680x1050. The bigger the resolution the better but its not a deciding factor. 12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? Hopefully not too glossy if I have a choice. I've heard the the infinity display's on the HP's are really reflective so i wont be getting the infinity display. Not a big deal. Build Quality and Design 13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? Not a big deal as long as it works really well. 14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last? I will be buying it around June 2009. I figure i need to find out what im going to get and then buy it when it is on sale. 15) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 500GB? 200-300GB+ unless there is a free upgrade 16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive? DVD burner at least. I do like HP's lightscribe technology and would pay $15 for it. I'm looking for recommendations or confirmation of the computer im already looking at. I will be using skype on it so a webcam is a priority but if i have to buy an external one its not too big of a deal. A couple more questions... Is it true that the AMD processors in laptops get hotter and use more power than Intel?
Buying a laptop for college? What should I do? I checked out the HP DV9310 http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Specifications-of-HP-Pavilion-17-Widescreen-Notebook-PC-DV9310US/sem/rpsm/oid/175876/rpem/ccd/productDetailSpecification.do#tabs at circuit city online, it's only $850 and seems perfect for me. The question is, should I buy it now while it's on sale or wait until June to buy a laptop? Will technology have improved or gotten cheaper by very much in just 6 weeks? I have a crashy PC that I'm using right now, as well, so it seems like the sooner I get a new computer, the better.
I need help choosing.. Please? I've been looking around for months and finally I found two laptops within my price range, but I can't decide which to get. My laptop will be used for lots of music, a few small games, internet, and homework. I need a fast computer that can handle my stuff without getting too bogged down. Which of these two is best for me? (I'm a teenage girl by the way, if that matters) HP from circuit city: http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=199874#CustomerRatings Dell from best buy: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8679049&productCategoryId=abcat0502003&type=product&tab=1&id=1197678601495#productdetail I need a lot of answers quick because the Dell deal ends this week so if I decide to get that one it'll still be on sale.
Is there any laptop in India with Nvidia's 8800M?? I have been searching around for gaming laptops. I stay in Bangalore and the best laptop configuration i found was of Dell XPS 1530.. It offers me everything - T9300 intel core2duo, 4GB RAM, 15.4" widescreen, etc... but it comes with 8600M GT.. I was wondering when i could get a laptop with an 8800M?? I didn't want to import a laptop because the after-sales service would be very slow.. I prefer Dell, HP, Lenovo or even Acer.. but i haven't found any of them with 8800M, even after using the "Customize and Buy" option.. Also, any idea (if a 8800M lappy isn't available now) when a laptop will 8800M will hit the Indian markets??? There is Dell XPS 1730, but it hasn't been released in India yet... Thank you all.. :)
I want a better/new CPU...help? for my Laptop, a HP dv9000. I have no idea where to start. I have a t2250@1.73GH with NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 with Windows XP. I'm starting to get to a point where i have a lot of programs running at once from media to simple word documents so I'm lookin for some speed and power in general. I already have bought upgraded RAM to 2 gig, not much but it was on sale. Would the new CPU help or should mine be good enough and something else is slowing it down? I've gone through the different config's and set it up to not use what's not needed also. for my Laptop, a HP dv9000. I have no idea where to start. AMD Athlon 64X2 vs Intel for basic use? I will be getting a new laptop and like most am torn between Dell and Hp. I reallly prefer the look of the HP but most of the HP's that are comparable in price to a Dell with similar specs have an AMD Athlon 64X2. This is the only way the HP's can compete in price with the Dell. I was particularly looking at a Dell Vostro 1400 or 1500 vs an HPdv6605Ca. The Hp is on sale right now at future shop for 749 and the comparable Dell is 919. Not sure if I should go with the HP or Dell. I hate the look of the Vostros, they are so boring but it's what's inside that counts right? This is why I'm so torn. Also the Dell has basic microsoft office included whereas the HP has only the trial version. I really need help fast cause I'm planning to purchase on Monday! I want the notebook for X-mas!
How long have you had your laptop for? And how often do you use it? Well i'm on mine like every single day and rarely put it off. I know i have very few programs on here and i keep it clean.. i think this helps a great deal with the speed (which has been just the same as the day i got it). It's been almost 2 yrs and when i bought it, the sales man told me that it wouldn't last me longer than 2 yrs. I've had to send it in for motherboard repairs a few times. But mostly, everything works perfectly and i've never had any other problem with it. I find it hard to believe that this laptop will not last me FOREVER. It's apparently a very good product.. maybe they underestimated how good this laptop is. It's the hp pavillion notebook, if anyone was wondering. The only types of laptops i've heard that really suck are the acers. Toshibas work really well and seem to last forever too. If you also have an hp pavillion, can you tell me how long you've had it for? And what i can expect? If you have another type of laptop, pls answer too. Describe your usage and treatment of the laptop too. Thanks u :)
Retrieving Information From A Dead Hard Drive? Inexpensive!!? Hello, I have a Hp Pavilion tx1320us notebook. On a hot garage sale morning, I left my laptop on the front seat of my moms car and it overheated which caused the hard drive to crash. Now I am on hunt for a data recovery service that is cheap or maybe even a USB or something I could use. Please Help Me!! I have been told to buy the wrong products that don't recieve information a dead hard drive. The hard drive can still be detected, but when you restart the laptop it only brings you to the background color of my desktop and it stays there. If you know anything, please let me know!! Thank you so much!!
What is wrong with people these days..? So get this right, my computer (HP DV2000 yeah, it sucks) has crapped out about 3 times. And being under warranty I took it into Harvey Norman (New Zealand) three weeks ago for the 4th time. For some reason the motherboard keeps burning out. I don't know if it's me or what, they never really give me any answers when they give it back. But this last time. I took it in, saying it was the SAME problem as the first 3 times and the power jack on the computer had recently become faulty.. So we took it in on a Saturday and the person serving me said the technician would ring on Monday. Guess what? He didn't. So I rang on Wednesday. what do ya know, he wasn't in. A week later, still no phone call. So I tried on the Second Wednesday and left a message because he wasn't there again. The day after. Still no luck. Then three weeks past. Went in just yesterday and got one of the kind ladies to track it, she said it was in another city. And no details. A month next Saturday - I really need it for my studies and i'm currently using my sisters old laptop. I don't know what's happening with my computer, they say it might not be covered by the warranty (yet the past 3 have, how freaking dumb is that?) Is there anything I can do? I've been telling the sales person that it was a dud computer. (Price dropped from $1700 to $1200 and ALWAYS overheats, yet my friend has the exact same computer and has no problems...?) Any advice on what I could do would be great.
Which laptop is the best for Chemical Engineering majors, Macbook Pro or HP Pavilion dv9912nr Notebook PC? I'm in my Sophomore year in college as a Chemical Engineer student and I plan to get a Master's Degree as a Chemical Engineer. My dad just bought me an HP Pavilion dv9912nr Notebook PC for school. I'm wondering if this computer is a good computer to be used for my major. When I went to the Apple store, the sales people told me that the Macbook Pro would be very useful for me when I'm doing equations and graphics for the degree I"m studying in. Now, I don't know if I should return the HP laptop and get a Macbook Pro or just use the HP laptop. Thanks to those that reply!
Which laptop shall I get? I'm looking for a laptop, the people in the shops just confuse me with a lot of sales jargon. I want one with decent memory and graphics, it will mostly be used to download lots of music and movies, also copy to cd. I need the basics - word, excel, etc. I dont want to spend a fortune about £500.00 (GBP). I've seen a few in my price range , and have seen a nice on with a built in web cam, and think that would be good as i travel a lot. It needs to be light weight and also needs to be wireless for internet access. I'm really confused as everyone tells me different stuff - get a dell, dont get a dell, hp is great, then hp is crap! help and guidance would be much appreciated. I know i want a lot for my money! lol. I would buy second hand from ebay or something but I dont know what i'm looking for! Please help. x Only sensible answers please!!
Just how strict are colleges at enforcing the recommended laptop specs? I'm going to college in January and I've decided that I want to get the HP 2514 tablet. I've got an awesome desktop, so anything that was too taxing on my laptop could just be done on my desktop later anyways. But laptops are a course requirement, and in the recommended hardware section they say that they recommend an Intel processor with a minimum of 2GHz, so basically a T5750. The tablet that I want is an AMD (which logically should make no difference at all) QL-60 clocked at 1.9GHz. Now really 100MHz isn't going to make any noticeable difference, and even if Intel's pack a little more power it really won't be all that much of a difference. The tablet is on sale for $800 this weekend and I want to get it before the price goes back up. I can't check with the college since it's a weekend. I read somewheres that they say you could probably make it through the first year with a computer below the specifications, but we're talking 3 years down the road. But I mean 1.9GHz will be sufficient, so it shouldn't really matter right? I'm going through for Computer Systems Technology, so really I shouldn't be using any applications that a 1.9GHz dual-core couldn't handle. OK MIRANDA LOLZ. Spam elsewhere. Uh, it was an Intel 2GHz dual core.
Can someone give me tips for buying a laptop? Where are some good places to look? I've looked at the dell dell, the hp website, the circuit city website, and the best buy website. I definitely want to get one on clearance, and possibly with a free printer or something. So far it seems like circuit city has the best clearance items. Although, they call it "outlet". Does this mean they are used computers? I want a new computer. Also, dell has this "instant savings" thing. Does that mean it's realy on sale? or is it mostly meant to make you think it is? Anyway, I just want tips on buying a laptop. Any tips would be great. i'd also like to know about how much I could save on like a $1000 laptop. I saw a free printer and $200 off. Can i find better than that? Okay, I've heard people saying that their laptops aren't even lasting one year. Is this normal? if you're careful, shouldn't it last a few years?
good notebook brands? I had a macbook but I think I broke it.. so I'm looking for a new laptop.. I just want something for everyday use.. nothing too fancy but I don't want it to crash on me either. I am looking to stay under $800 but if I HAVE to I'd spend $1000. I just want something relatively cheap that will last me. I heard that HP and compaqs or w/e arn't so great and I haven't had the best of luck with dell desktops, but I'm willing to try. I also heard of lenovo(sp?).. I don't know too much about it but there's a sale on their website. what are your opinions?
Looking in to buy in a Laptop which brands are good? And Internet question? First I'm just looking for a simple computer to do school work internet, play and copy DVD and CDs. I'm not in to gaming or anything else. I’m trying to get the best for a low price. Rank HP, Dell, Toshiba, and Gateway. I've called Dell and been to Best Buy, CompUSA, Radio Shack, and Circuit City. Those are the brands I’ve been shown and all including warranty average about $1100. Also as far as the internet goes they all have a built in wireless card. But for home they tell me I’m going to need a router. Can I install myself to Roadrunner? The sales men tell me its best to let them do it I’m not too familiar with computers and if I don’t do it right my neighbors can use my internet signal and even steal my passwords and stuff. Is that true? They want to install on average $150 to $200.
What laptop is best for my needs? Continue reading, please.? I bought a Gateway laptop 1 1/2 years ago & have had nothing but problems with it. I've had to do 4 system restores because it either gets a virus or it crashes. Even after doing what the tech support told me to do, it still runs like crap. I did research last year and asked friends. The sales person even recommended it. Therefore, I do not want to purchase another lemon. I have been doing research online and I keep finding people's opinions on what is the best. I am looking for a computer that will suit my needs. I am an Internet junkie. I live in Japan and I download American TV shows. I also use the Internet for research. I make many worksheets & PowerPoint presentations for my work. I also do a lot of photo editing & video production. In short, I need a computer that can handle multiple applications running at the same time, & not run like a snail. I also need one that will not get viruses & has excellent tech support. I am trying to stay under $1,000. Dell, HP, Sony, or MAC?
