What is the difference between HP laptops and HP Pavilion laptops and which laptop do you recommend? I am interested in buying a new laptop but don't know which one to get. My last two desktop computers have been Compaq but was recommended an HP Pavillion at Office Depot last week.

Do HP pavilion laptops recognize US Robotics routers? I have a new HP Pavilion dv6436nr laptop with built in WLAN but i can't connect to my wireless router. Every other computer in my house, including another HP laptop connect fine to the wireless, but not mine. I managed to connect to other wireless networks from neighbors' houses n such. When i went to set up the wireless network it asked me which brand router i had, US Robotics wasn't listed, so i clicked 'other' and it said it didn't support the router i chose. im currently reformatting my hp pavilion laptops hd and it says 807 minutes remaining. is this normal? I've rehormatted it before and it only took a few hours at most but 13 hours and 45 minutes? Seems a bit long just to reformat edpecialy because I have used maybe 15 gb out of my 500. So any answers why its taking so long.

Anyone else having problems with wireless networking on HP Pavilion laptops? I've had my HP Pavilion TX 1000 for 10 months now and the wireless networking has cut out at least 15 times a day every day since I've had it. Internet and that works fine, but every now and again it will just disconnect from the network and the network disappears from the list. The only way i can get the network running again is to either put my laptop into sleep mode then wake it up again or to just completely restart it, and after doing this the network connects automatically and works fine for another 10-40 minutes before cutting out again. My sister's laptop is a Toshiba and this never happens on hers, and also recently I was given a free laptop from my school which is Acer and this hasn't happened once on this laptop either. I would use my school laptop but there are certain things it can't do and also it's on XP (my home use HP is on Vista, which i prefer) I've been researching HP networking problems and there have been a few posts but not much help. Also I have spoken to the HP helpline about my built in webcam as it tends to choose when it's actually there or not, telling me that it's either "not plugged in" or in use by another program (although there are no programs other than msn on the laptop that could use the camera, and it is with msn that i get this problem) They told me to download some crappy file that will fix the bug from their website, which i never did, but I'm thinking that maybe this networking problem could also be a bug? I have 2 friends who are having the same problem and, funnily enough, they both have HP Laptops too. Seem's this has been happening to a few people, anyone got any answers? Thanks! Do HP Pavilion Laptop Batteries Overheat faster than most laptops? I was wonderin if HP laptop batteries overheat way more than most laptops. hp pavilion pc recovery cd creator for wndows vista? i have a hp pavilion desktop and i have created the pc recovery cd , it is an option in this computer. But, in my new laptop hp pavilion with Vista instolled in it, i don't see this option. What can i do to create them myself?

Can you add extra hard drive space to an HP Pavilion laptop? I know most laptops are all one unit and you cannot add extra hard drive space but my HP Pavilion dv5000 seems to have a space that you can open up and add chips of memory possibly. Does anyone know this particular brand, and if this is possible. I have only 60 Gigs on my laptop, and I have a 500 Gig external but I need more space for downloading on the computer before I can transfer it to the external. Thanks I have 60 gigs about 30 goes to backup and software I need to leave on the laptop. I would like to leave at least, very very least 4 gigs of music. When I want to make a 28 gig download i cannot start to make it because I don't have that space left. The download won't go directly to the external hard drive. If I were to look at replacing my hard drive what kind of cost would I be facing? I am using Azureus as my download manager. I changed the file path to my external and for some reason it still runs through my laptop as well.

My HP Pavilion laptop is just barely a year old and the battery is toast. Is this normal? The kicker is that the HP Pavilion was never run on battery power, except for the few times when I accidentally unplugged it. Is this normal? How much does a new battery run? My current one gives me about 10 minutes of use only. Perhaps the fact that I never really used it caused it to die.........
