Hp Large Format Printers Knowledge Base
For large format printers, what is the yield of mL ink to sq-in of paper? I'm thinking of buying an HP Designjet 10000s to make posters, the machine costs around $1500 with a maximum paper width of 104 in. It occupies 6 ink cartridges, each of which cost around $300 (ouch). So I'm looking at an initial investment of around $4000 with taxes, shipping, installation, and all of the other junk required to maintain it and dry the product and vent, blah blah. Anyway, each of the cartridges hold 1000mL of their color. For general, high-quality prints, how much ink is required per square inch? At LargeFormatPosters.com, a 58x100 poster costs $284.94. 104in x 164ft semi-gloss paper roll costs roughly $900. 104 X 164(12) = 204672 square inches. 900/204672 = $0.004 per square inch. $0.004 X 58x100 = $23.20. For the $284.94 semi-gloss print, where is the other $261.74 (284.94 - 23.2) come from? It costs $300, generally, for 1000mL of ink. Does it really require that much ink to print, or is it severely overpriced? For those who took Microeconomics, regardless of the market price, what is the fixed cost per square inch? -Andrew

How to print on fabric? I would like to print on rolls of fabric using a large-format printer (HP Designjet 500PS). I believe the inks are water-based, dye-based ink. What can I do to make it so the ink is colorfast and won't bleed when the fabric gets wet?
Where can I get large format paper (NOT photo paper) for my printer to make high quality mockups? I am a student searching for good printer paper that isn't photo paper. I need to do mock-ups of a lot of things from a magazine to a calendar to postcards and stationary. I have an HP deskjet 9650 (http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF10a/18972-236251-236261-14438-f51-306780.html?jumpid=oc_R1002_USENC-001_HP%20Deskjet%209650%20Printer&lang=en&cc=us). Paper doesn't have to be 13x19, but that is the max size for my printer. I definitely need bigger than 8x5x11. I am looking for a range of colors, textures and weights. I live in the Cleveland, Ohio area, and I've already tried Hollows - but their paper doesn't always work with ink jets.
Large Format printing? I need to print off a poster I've made in PhotoShop for an assignment, but I have no previous experience with large format printing. I want to make sure I get it right the first time so I need some clarification on the specs for preparing the file for printing. It's going to be A1 and full colour. As far as I'm told, the resolution should be 300 dpi, but I don't know if the actual canvas size needs to be A1, I currently have it set to A3 because the font was coming up too small. Also, how wide should the margins be? Any other feedback will also be appreciated. If it makes any difference the printer will be an HP Designjet 800. I don't need to send the file anywhere I can print it myself, I just need to know the specs for the document.

I also need to be able to print color reference pages for customers. I scrapbook & would like the option print out 12 x 12 - a large format printer. I am seriously considering the Epson 1400. How can I print a banner 96" long x 36" wide? I prefer to print from Powerpoint but can copy and paste the data into a few other programs that I have access to (CAD, Word, etc). The printer (plotter actually) i'm using is an HP DesignJet 450C. It seems like the largest I can make the powerpoint slide is 56x36. I don't want to pay to have someone else do this, I'll change my format or print onto two pcs. of paper before I do that. Thanks in advance!
Scanning in comics books? I want to start backing up my comics to via digital format. I have read that 300 dpi is the best resolution but here's my issue: - After I scan the page and save it to jpg format the file size is very large - 4mb. Considering a comic has about 32 pages this is too large. - I tested using 200 dpi and saving it as jpeg but it comes out just under 2 MB. - I can open the file in Photoshop and resave with only High quality and the file will shrink down but I am not sure if this is the best method. I have downloaded a few samples and they range from 10mb to 20mb with only 24 pages. Does anyone have experience backing up their comics to digital format? If so what is the best scan settings and size. Any other suggestions are appreciated. I am using HP 6210 all in one printer that has a flat bed scanner. However it is not big enough to fit a 2 page spread. Thanks for any info. Thank you all for your help. Let me clarify something, yes I understand that I will need to sacrific some quality for size but I am interested in the best method to shrink the image to a managable file size. The sample files I have I am unable to reproduce it both in quality and file size. So it is possible to have a good quality without a comic going over 20 mb.
