What are the chances a laptop repair store would carry parts for a HP track pad? The left button of the track pad is broken and can't be out back on because the hinges connecting it are broken. I have thrown the pieces away, revealing the first layer of the inner workings; the silicon nipple and the metallic hinges. The plastic outer casing is broken and the internal plastic hinges are broken. My Point: What are the chances a local computer repair store would have parts? Would they be able to repair it without opening the casing of the laptop?

Why does my 40 HP Evinrude smoke so much? It has not run for 5 years, I just got the boat and last Saturday I started it up and runs good. Its a 1968 engine. I mixed the oil to spec's, 1 to 24, it says 1 qt of oil to six gallons of gas. So do you think it will stop smoking after I get some hours on it? Could I cut down on the amount of oil in the mix? Is this the correct hard drive to purchase? I very recently suddenly started getting frequent blue screens (of death) on my notebook, and it only seemed to be getting worse. When I attempted to reinstall my computer with the recovery drive, I got the blue screen during the process which left my operating system files corrupted. I then tried to reinstall with the recovery disc, but during that process when it automatically restarted, I got an error telling me that "windows\system32\winload.exe” is missing or corrupt." I emailed HP and they told me that my hard drive might need to be replaced. Does this seem like the likely problem? HP told me to buy it from an HP parts store, but I would much rather buy a new notebook than pay $600 for a replacement hard drive. Instead, I did some searching on the internet and found better prices, but I have some questions. First, two of the websites I’m looking at; compstick.com and upgradewiz.com offer similar prices at $90-$100 for a 250 GB hard drive. Are any of you familiar with these websites? Are they trustworthy? Second, while I searched for the exact part number HP provided, the description for the hard drive says it’s for HP Pavilion DV6500, DV6600 and DV6700 series. My notebook is a DV6000 series. Is this still compatible? Thanks for your help.

Whether I have a warranty or not is HP responsible for exchanging two defected 256 MB memory sticks? I have an HP Pavilion a815n (PS512AA) Desktop. Just recently, under HP PartSurfer my memory sticks needs to be changed. It says “256MB, PC3200, unbuffered DDR-SDRAM DIMM REQUIRES RETURN OF DEFECTIVE PART” and that the new part # is: DC468AX is the “New part for P8670-69002”. I never upgraded or replaced any RAM. It's still the way it is when i first bought it. I talked to someone at the Parts Department and they didn't have an answer for that. Then they transferred me to the tech-support department and they weren't aware of the situation and they re-transferred me to the HP store. And the guy gave me a number basically to the Spare Parts Warehouse (877-253-8898). and when i called them, they said that my RAM costs $43. It was a whole fiasco and it was completely insane because I'm on the phone for like 2 hours waiting for further instructions. Looking for HP dv9000 part? I am looking for a part for my husband's computer...he has an HP dv9000 entertainment laptop. The broken part is the hole where the ac adapter plugs into the laptop itself. I don't know what it's called, let alone the part number. I've contacted HP but am waiting for a response. I have an HP laptop and the sound doesn't work!? I have a dv4-1155se HP laptop and the sound isn't working. When I touch the sound icon on the touch keyboard part, it doesn't turn blue, it just stays orange. But I checked the programs and sounds and it says it's working properly. This happened a few times before and sometimes it would just turn on by itself. How can I fix this? Or do I need to go to the store? Thank you!

Motherboard for HP computer? I have an HP Pavillion D4100Y computer and the pins on my motherboard for the cpu are bent. I called a store and they said that i should call HP and get their part since it has a better chance of working. When i called HP, first time they gave me a phone for a company that did not work. 2nd & 3rd time they gave me a legit company but bad item numbers. And then that company said that they no longer have the part. So HP does not have it and the company they suggested does not have it. Can anyone find me a dealer that has the motherboard for the D4100Y? Will other motherboards work?

I recently bought an HP Officejet 6310xi All-In-One and i want to use and ethernet cable.? Since i have more than 1 computer in the house, there is a way that is compatible with the printer which is to connect an ethernet cable from the modem to the printer so that every computer connected to that network can print. however, my modem is in a tight place where i cannot put the printer. I do not want to buy a longer ethernet cable yet, but i want to know if there is any other choice. Is there any kind of wireless ethernet cable they sell in stores? so that one part can connect to the printer and another part can connect to the modem. if n ot, can anyone tell me some other suggestions? p.s. i do not want to move the printer around every time i go to another computer.

Can't get windows to install on this HP....need a pro techie....please help!!!? Hi, I have this HP Media Center 873n that I have been trying to repair and it is not working. I have tried everything I can think of and I can't figure it out so I thought I would try here. Just so you know, I am very experienced and have tried known good parts. I got this computer and it was locking up during bootup. It passes post but freezes during windows boot/splash screen. I tried using the destructive restore and it seemed to go fine until I got to the part where you enter language, time zone, and stuff and when it got there, it went into super slow turtle mode so I ended up quitting on it because it locked up and took forever( over an hour) to get off one page! So then I thought I would try restoring it with a factory xp pro copy instead of the HP media center restore. I only formated the main partition and left the recovery partition in tact but I heard I killed that because formatting the regular partition you loose the msinst folder or something like that but no biggie because I have a retail version of xp pro to use if I can get it to work. I changed boot order to boot from cd and windows goes through like normal and loads files needed, but when it reboots it comes up and should go to the install screen where normally states 40 mins remaining, but it is just blank teal/greenish screen with the curser. I can move the mouse and it doesn't seem to be locked up but never goes past that. I have tried new hard drives, new ram, new video card and nothing helps. I also tried to strip it down to just dvd drive, hd, ram, video card and install that way basically just removing the tv card, media card reader, floppy, cdrom, and soundblaster audio card. When I remove them, it won't boot or come on at all! I figure HP must have something stored in ROM that will not allow it to boot if stuff is removed since it won't power on with items removed or unhooked. I have never had a problem repairing or restoring a pc like this before EVER! Normally if I do, I swap some HW with know good HW and find bad part and replace it. My problem is, I can't find any HW bad on this PC! Motherboard passes post and boots fine, I ran Windows Memory Diagnostic to check and see if maybe MOBO was having problems writing to RAM but all tests are passing with not a single error and it has been running for at least couple hours now or more. I have racked my brain on this thing for days now and can't figure it out. Only thing I can think of is that the bios has some stupid setting in it blocking me from installing xp pro since it stopped it from booting when I removed items that should not matter if they are connected or not! Has anyone had this problem or know how I can fix it? Anyone know where I can get a bios update for it or a copy of the bios so I could possibly re-flash it. It has pheonix-award ver 6.0 rev 3.13 currently. It says i845q-lpc47m1-6a69vf0kc-00 at the bottom of the bios diag screen during startup if it might help. Thank you for your time and help with this problem and I'm sorry the question is so long but I wanted to give as much detail as possible and try to avoid everyone answering with stuff I have already tried! I will check in often and will to try about anything! I will choose best answer and give credit if someone comes up with a solution that works! =) Thanks for the responses so far but I have tried both! I have tried 3 different hard drives, 3 sets of ram, and 2 different video cards that I know are all good! I have also ran the memtest many passes and let it run for 3+ hours without a single error so I shut it off. I will try running a linux distro and see if that will work. Yes I have tried resetting the bios by removing the battery for 30mins-1hr and it didn't help. I tried replacing the components 1 at a time but it wouldn't boot until all were back in besides dialup modem and floppy. It didn't care about those two but requires the others. I'm sure the format of the hard drive is not the problem since I have used 3 different hard drives! ;-) I even thought maybe it was overheating even though I doubted it so I busted out two extra fans and placed them inside for extra cooling. Just thought I would add this before someone mentions it. Ok, I just loaded linspire (lindows) and it boots and runs it fine. It was the only linux distro I could find that I have laying around. So I imagine that it isn't a hardware issue which puts me back in a bind of why it won't install windows! Rick: Thanks for the response....I have the restore partition still on the original hard drive. It has all the drivers and apps on it. I used my USB cable, connected it to my pc, and checked it and they are all there. I have tried installing a clean install from XP disk on one of my hard drives and no luck. I connected another (3rd) hard drive to my computer, formatted it using disk manager and then connected it to my clients pc and tried clean install on it, still exact same problem so I don't think it is the MBR! I have never had a problem fixing HPs in the past and never seen one act like this with reguards to the hardware causing no boot. I have over 10 HP/compaq computers laying around here and never had a problem like this before or with any computer I have ever worked on for that matter. I'm not worried about a little extra work installing drivers and apps if I can just get a copy of windows to install!!! I guess i'm going to see if I can find the bios reset jumper and try it! None of these figured out why it won't boot without the sound card which is really strange, but I'm choosing the best answer for the most helpful and he also helped through email! Thanks!!

Will HP warranty cover a computer that the previous owner broke in an accident if I have no receipt? I bought a used HP Pavilion Entertainment PC (a fairly new laptop computer) for $20 from a guy I know (not a store). A previous owner accidentally cracked the display. Most of it still works, but there is a black stripe running down the screen, approximately 1" wide, which is why it was so inexpensive. My boss saw this and thinks that HP should cover the computer looks new and should be under warranty. HP OfficeJet7110 won't print even after replacing new ink cart. /now has one "cyan" prhd prob. still won't prt I bought this 2nd hand from office supply store (used in store only) and have already put more parts into it (pwr. mod./pwr.cord. col.& blk. ink cart.) all for about $75 and am hesitant to add more. It cycles through after install. software etc. like it will print but flashes (bad printhead/replace cyan) and even with that will print nothing....The paper comes out with no ink. If anyone knows if this is worth adding the cyan prthd, I'll be glad to do that, but I was thinking that it should be printing the black ink at this point unless it needs cleaning, etc. Any solutions for cleaning, repair, salvaging this problem are deeply appreciated. HP laptop choice/Dell or HP? I have $700 saved up for an HP laptop, and can spend more than that possibly if my dad will pay for the rest. I don't know which laptop to get because they all seem basically the same. I like to upload pics/videos, I like to play sims 2 (and soon sims 3), download games, and of course go online which is probably the thing I do most on a computer. I would like a webcam but not totally necessary. Help! Does it matter where you buy your laptops or are they all the same? Cold air intake for scion tC? Hi have anyone used the cold air intake on a tC? I talked to the a salesperson at an auto parts supply store and he recommended the cold air intake. He said the K & N air filter alone won't increase any horse power but the cold air intake one would inscrease up to 5% like around 8 hp and it cost around $200. Would 8 hp makes a difference? I need a replacement laptop harddrive? My 4 year old laptop's hdd just kicked out on me, I have pretty much 2 choices. Try to find a new replacement laptop or scramble money together for a new desktop before I head off to college again in a month. I have no real idea about how to go trying to find a replacement hdd and I could use some help. My laptop is a HP ZV6000 (they do not make the model anymore and do not carry the original hdd in their online parts store). I know the hdd dimensions are 2.5" x 4" so I am wondering what I should look for next. Will any 2.5" hdd fit? Could you recommend some manufacturers for me to look at? Changing Fuel Filter on a 98 Cavalier? Quick Disconnect? I have located the fuel filter on my cavalier pretty easyily. I depressurized the system, but now I am stuck. There is a HP disconnect that I have never seen. There is a black plastic piece right where the filter inlet connects with the tube. The plastic quick connect thing looks like a soda bottle cap with 4 segments (it looks like they should be squezzed or spreak, but I don't know). I know Im supposed to do something with this, but what? I spent many hours trying to figure out how to get this off... no luck. How do I fix a loose IDE cable? I occasionally get an error on my laptop upon booting and I suspect a loose IDE cable could be the culprit. Few questions about Vista, Java updates.... and HP laptops, in general.? I've grown up with PCs. I know some of the Command tricks, I know where to look when something goes wrong. Now, ever since I got Vista Home Premium (came reinstalled) I have not been a happy camper. In a few months I'm going to purchase a new laptop, and I'm trying to decide whether I should switch to Mac or not. To me, it seems that each time updates download on my mom's iBook, she doesn't have to spend minutes waiting idly for the things to get installed. It looks like when Apple apps update, they replace the old with the new.... but with Windows I feel like I'm just adding on all this space-hogging patches to fix the big thing- which doesn't work that great to begin with. I have CCCleaner and I use AVG. I empty my cookies and cache regularly, and I run a scan every other day. I use primarily Mozilla, iTunes, MSword, Yahoo!Messenger, MSN, Adobe (multiple), Corel Painter... I have a 140GB hard-drive, where I store the programs and about 52.18GBs of music. I keep all my photography and files on an external 500GB which I plug in whenever I need to access the files. Despite my best attempts to keep the harddrive uncluttered, and not opening more than 5 programs at a time, it seems my computer gets really slow. Part of me thinks, that there are programs installed on my computer (that I don't need) that can be removed. I guess that was the intro.... so here are the questions: 1) Are there any superfluous programs I can remove from Vista without making it crash? I don't use the sidebar, for example. 2) What are all these Microsoft programs installed? Can I remove any? 3) My computer is HP, so there is a whole load of stuff I do not use, can I delete any of their programs without risking killing my computer? 4) Java(TM) Update.... I have 6, 14...SE Runtime... Are these necessary... I mean, can't I just keep the latest version? I know there are differences, like software to make the program run, and then the drivers and stuff... My installed programs only takes up 2.33 GBs apparently.... and yet, I barely have 26 GB of free space left. So I guess, if someone could explain to me how to deal with all these updates and point me in the direction of a site, or explain to me why the heck I need to install 20 "important" updates, and 45 "suggested" updates by Microsoft every few weeks... I'd greately appreciate it. I just want this thing to work, fast and efficiently. Yeah, also, I've heard of Linux in passing, but I know nothing of it. >>

Looking for HP dv9000 part? I am looking for a part for my husband's computer...he has an HP dv9000 entertainment laptop. The broken part is the hole where the ac adapter plugs into the laptop itself. I don't know what it's called, let alone the part number. I've contacted HP but am waiting for a response. Craftsman Riding Mower? We have the Craftsman 19 HP 42 inch deck lawn tractor. We bought it several years ago. The problem I am having is, I cannot seem to find any replacement parts. whats wrong with the computer? at work i have an HP in the office. there's also a Toshiba and a Compaq in other parts of the store. they are all connected to SBC YAHOO. the HP is connected directly to the router. the security suite expired on it recently. (anit virus, anit spyware, firewall, anti spam) today the HP wouldn't load web pages. not even the home page (yahoo.com) the browser is Mozila FireFox. so i'm wondering why isn't it letting anyone go online? we got a new security suite today. but that's giving problems too. it was an un-sealed package. the internet problem started before installing the software. my dad (boss) thinks something happened when the old software expired. why would the company shut down the internet when we can renew our software online? i figure maybe the cable connecting to router to the computer is bad. or the computer has so much dirt/dust inside its preventing a connection.

Would I Be Able To Return This Laptop? I got a laptop (HP Compaq from 2003) as part of a scholarship award in November but I want to get a newer one soon with HP's student discount. Since I didn't pay for it I don't have a receipt. I now the laptop was ordered by the organization that gave it to me so I can't return it to a store. I still have the box it was shipped in with UPS's shipping info sticker and some sticker from HP with the product and serial codes. New Computer Help? I'm looking for a new computer, not a computer PACKAGE that includes like a monitor and printer, I only need the COMPUTER and nothing else, I have the mouse, keyboard and all the stuff for it already. documents erased? My daughter's documents keep being erased. She shuts it down and when she opens it in the morning She clicks on a document and a paragraph will show when she has written 50 pages! She saves everything that she writes. She is young so i don't allow her to connect to the internet on her computer. It is just for her to write her stores and draw. She has a hp and she hasn't even had it a year. I went into the computer and tried to find the rest of her file and i can't find it. Do you know how to retrieve the lost parts of her documents and also why is the computer doing this? Her writing is very important to her and i feel so bad for her when she spends so much time writing something only to find it gone. This has happened a few times with different documents. Some of them she hasn't opened in days and when she opens it they will be gone.

How can I use Norton Partition Magic 8.0? My OS is XP home edition. I have not downloaded SP1 or SP2 for fear it will cause more problems than it's worth. I have a HP Pavilion 7955 and use the free AVG, Ad Aware, and Zone Alarm. Thus far I have had no problems. I recently installed a 250GB HDD as my "secondary" drive for use primarily to store digital video that I'm downloading for my VHS and 8MM tapes. My OS is on a 40GB HDDD that is nearly full. However, as you may know, I can only access 137GB of this 250GB HDD. I understand the reason....I believe. But, my question is this: Can I use Norton Partition Magic 8.0 to partition this secondary drive to enable me to see the whole 250GB? I am told SP1 would enable me to see the "see" the full 250GB.....but SP1 is not available now as a separate download now (at least I can't find it). It's now a part of SP2 and this must be downloaded in order to get SP1. HP said if I downloaded SP2 several things may quit working.....including the "System Restore" function.

Internet Big Fish Games games Some online games - played RO for a while Microsoft Office Store/edit pics of my son - I always use psp311 D/L music/videos/movies Never had a Mac before, but know lots of ppl who love them, almost never had problems with Microsoft XP, like parts of Vista but am having a few issues with restoring my Acer with Vista... Would it be a better option to just buy a Vista OS disk and restore that way? I used to restore my desktop with XP OS all the time and it worked great...

what is LE in NVidia? A )i have 6200 AGP LE .... why is it LE ? it has higher throughputs than other 6200 s built . B ) in post direct X 9 times is pixel pipeline number important any more ? C ) how many pixel pipeline number does the 6200 LE have ? 2 or 4 ? D ) on the box in a PC store only basic stuff like ram and vertices / sec are given . one can only know the detail from the part number and website ... even 6200 has 18 variations in XFX alone ..these variations are not indicated on the box ? why so ? is this not bad trade practise ? nokia does not 15 variations of each model nor HP 15 variations of each printer model ..... is this not chr=eatying selling different variations even when socket type ram model number all are same ... we cannot walk around with internet on our skull when buying a graphics card .... and shop owners are too stupid to understand the difference .... opinion any ....???

???About a Mac???? So my motherboard is shot to hell. I took it to the Mac store and they said $800 to fix it!!!!! It has water damage and that isn't covered on any of their warranties. What do I do? I payed about $1400 LAST February, do I sell it for parts and just say forget it or is there somewhere else I could maybe take it to get it fixed for less? Also, I really want to save all my memory and such if I do end up selling it for parts, how do I do that? I don't have a desk top, and right now I am using my bf labtop, but he has a hp with vistas, so i know I can't save anything on his. HELP!!!!
